Ryan Mitchell has really turned it around in May. Probably to be expected I suppose for him to struggle at first going HS to a full season level. In May, he is hitting .283 with a whooping .492 OBP and good .478 SLG.

Nothing is wrong with Doyle. The MiLB website and Cardinals Player Development listed Doyle pitching yesterday, a day before he was actually scheduled according to Springfield (who should know). He is throwing tonight. Our Daily Notebooks here at The Cardinal Nation are correct.
Liam Doyle facing off against Kade Anderson tonight. A good one so far. Both guys got 3 Ks in the 2nd inning. Interestingly, all three of Doyles’ were looking. He has 5 strikeouts so far.
Can someone explain to me why in the Memphis game tonight, the winning pitcher was Murphy, who pitched innings 7 & 8 – but the Cards never trailed and were ahead 5-2 after the 1st inning? Shouldn’t the winning pitcher be whoever finished the 5th inning with the lead? Gastelum got the last out in the 5th, and Roycroft pitched the 6th inning before Murphy took over. I did not watch or listen to the game, but I found this very odd. Do the official scorers have the ability to give the Win to whoever they wish? Not trying to stir up anything, I honestly am looking for the answer.
In the case when the winning team is already ahead but the starter didn’t go five innings, the rule is that the scorer gives the win to the “most effective reliever”. In this case, it was the guy who went two scoreless innings over the two other relievers who threw just one inning each.

6 IP by a SP in the Cards org? That doesn’t sound right. Especially with 97 pitches. They have been pulling guys around 80 it seems normally.
It is a rarity. Last time out, Dobbins went seven innings, but he did it in just 85 pitches. Perhaps they will keep stretching some guys out a bit more.
P.S. Also to note, since Cijntje faced two batters throwing lefty, all 97 pitches weren’t on his right arm!!!
Looks like Cijntje issued two walks lefty in 11 total pitches, so 86 right handed pitches and 11 lefty.
FWIW, I have no idea how he can just start pitching lefty in the middle of an inning with no warmup and be effective. Two walks are not surprising.

Because Mautz and Fernandez were away from Memphis and the Redbirds had to go with a bullpen game today, the Cardinals brought up Jason Savacool from Peoria again. He was again roughed up, charged with six earned runs in 2/3 of an inning. He took Sunday’s loss as the Redbirds were crushed, 18-4. They fell out of first place for the first time all season.
Savacool took the spotlight off Ian Bedell getting roughed up in his one inning.
And Noot went 2 for 4.

In all fairness, expectations for Bedell have hit rock bottom.
And yet the Cardinals brought him back off the development list to pitch this game, and brought a struggling reliever up from A ball to pitch in the game.
So, is that catastrophe on the players or the decision makers?
Not to make excuses for anyone, but Memphis has nine pitchers on the IL. Their replacements, especially the bullpen, haven’t been good. In fact, in the 20-team IL, Memphis relievers have the highest ERA at 5.81.
It is not like there is help at Springfield. In the Texas League, Springfield is ninth of 10 pens at 6.06.
So, it is easy to understand why St. Louis doesn’t have much to choose from to augment the pen.
Is it the players or coaching? No way to tell.
