Well 858booyah, that was what the article said, he would prob make AA by summer. Fine with that,maybe AAA by next year though depends on how he does at AA. It did say maybe a callup by next summer to mlb but i think that would be rushing it.

Blaze Jordan, Blaze Jordan, Blaze Jordan. Sure am reading a lot of positive things about him. Unfortunately for Blaze, the big boys up north are blocking his progression. We just may have to dangle him (and others) out as trade bait when we look to add a little starting pitching help as the deadline looms near.
Urias is the person blocking him on my opinion but he shouldn’t be. Gorman to 3B and Jordan to DH and Jordan can get the majority of PA Urias is with Urias getting less time. Gets Jordan some MLB development time and I think he would get plenty of PA
ATM, that only works when Herrera is at catcher. Otherwise Ivan will be DH.
I think Blaze Jordan is going to have to be able to play 3B to get much playing time with the Cards.
Ivan catches 2 or 3 times a week. Jordan could also get a start or so between 3B and 1B a week as well so say half time starter with pinch hit duties as well. We are not talking some can’t miss high upside prospect here but more of a guy who realistically is projecting more for the part time platoon type role I described. If it was say Josh Baez no way he is half time but Blaze isn’t on the same trajectory of being an impact starter unless he works his way up to it by proving he needs more time.
To expand further, not every prospect when they come up needs to have a full time role with at least 500 PA lined up for them. There are guys who are middle prospects that should get partial time off the bench and work their way up like Tommy Edman did. Prove you deserve more than 200-300 PA by having good results and force the manager to give you that playing time. At this point Blaze doesn’t have much left to prove in AAA and keeping him there just delays finding out if he can be a valuable role player.

Isn’t that more an offensive-focused statement? We don’t know if the Cardinals see his defense at third as being MLB ready.

That would be 2-3 games a week. Figure a game at 3rd and 1 or 2 at DH. Maybe a turn at 1st once in a while. He could come out late for a defensive replacement if need be. Assuming his glove works at all at MLB level. It seems doable, but like Brian says, we don’t know what they think of his defense and it might be that they want him at 3B every day for now.

Yeah it definitely is and maybe I’m overlooking where he is defensively since I don’t watch the Memphis games. There are definitely things he needs to work on with his offensive game like getting the ball in the air more and swinging less out out of the zone pitches. But Jordan does some things very well and has a very high contact rate when he does swing so he has good bat control. I’d like to see him challenged against MLB pitchers.

Yeah think of the PA Urias as getting as primarily being up for grabs with Gorman maybe getting full time off versus LHP as well.

Looking forward to it. You guys have much more knowledge obviously than me so always great to hear and learn some insights.
Taking a closer look at Blaze’s underlying stats, one thing really interesting I noticed. Jordan is Alec Burleson Jr. Both hit a lot of grounders (50+%). Both are free swingers but don’t K much due excellent bat control. Both hit the ball hard at a high rate. It is kind of astounding the similarities in their profiles as both are also bigger, slower guys who are below average 1B most likely.
Burleson stats are career and Jordan are this year as not immediately finding these stats aggregate for AAA career but same ballpark for his overall AAA numbers.
Burleson – 88.1 Z-Con %, 32.3 OZ-Sw %, 72.2 Z-Sw %, 8.6 SwStr%, 90.3 EV, 42.3 HardHit%, 13.7 K%, 7.0 BB%, 41.9 GB%
Jordan – 92.2 Z-Con %, 37.3 OZ-Sw %, 76.2 Z-Sw %, 9.7 SwStr %, 91.3 EV, 45.8 HardHit%, 12.5 K%, 6.7 BB%, 54.7 GB %
Jordan hits more grounders overall and Burly has been improving his free swinging some the last year or so. But I don’t think you could find a more perfect player comp for Blaze Jordan and early career Alex Burleson. If you only look at Burly’s first season the similarities are even more obvious.
