As much as I’d love to see Gassy, the only thing I want to see him doing tonight is munching on sunflower seeds out in the bullpen. With all of the appearances of late, Gassy would definitely run the risk of being gassed if summoned into this one.

Did Padilla get hurt after his Peoria promotion or are they just letting him work on some things out of game action? He hasn’t played since the 19th

Hansen turned 26 this summer and will turn 27 next summer, so his time is now. He can’t just hang around AAA all year again next season. A regular Memphis shuttler at the least. I consider it an issue that at 26 years old he seems to have topped out at a marginal 4 inning guy in the minors. We have been looking at marginal 3-4 inning guys in ML games the last couple days. While it is possible to win a game, it doesn’t seem like a recipe for a competitive season.
I can see teams that can neither develop nor buy actual starters going with the 3-4 inning guys approach. They would have to be more plentiful and affordable. I get that it is a fall back for the Cardinals now, but my fear is it will get comfortable. Looking at Hansen just plugging along doing 4 innings makes me worry about that. What are they doing? Why not make a decision. To the pen or push up a rung or two and either succeed or fail.
I think Hansen only chance to see St Lou is this year. He could be a Shuster or Zimmerman type. Next year Memphis looks to have a rotation of Cinjtje, Franklin, Doyle, Molina, and either Roby or Fitts. Santana, Findlay and Watson would be the lefty relievers. Long relief would be his only option without injuries.
Here is one measure of progress for the system.
Defending Texas League Champion Springfield clinched a playoff spot today, their fourth in the last four years. Memphis earned it in the AAA IL in the first half. That makes 2026 the first time both of the #stlcards top two affiliates made the post-season since 2010.
