It would be great for this thread to stay blank, unfortunately that’s not an option. Any news or updates that any of us read, hear etc. throw on this thread. Especially for the prospects/MILB guys who don’t get the same coverage.
December 18, 2025 at 3:49 pm #297824I’ve not been shy regarding my fondness of Roby and how I believe he’s quite important to the next truly contending STL team so something as simple as this keeps us a bit more knowledgeable. I hope AI is wrong and he gets some innings late in the season with a rested shoulder to be ready to fully build it back up in 2027.
Injury: Tommy John surgery
Date of Surgery: Around July 28, 2025.
Previous Issues: Suffered from shoulder injuries in 2023 and 2024.
Impact: Will miss the remainder of 2025 and likely all of the 2026 season, with a projected return in 2027December 18, 2025 at 5:11 pm #297833This will be a very difficult topic to comment on. The FO is very tight lipped about injuries. The only injuries we know much about are Riby and Hjerpe. We only know because they had surgery. Heck, we don’t know extent of Rincon and Hences injuries. I compare MLB injury reports to the NFL and NHL. It’s like no knowledge of exact injuries do not help other teams in games and roster moves.
December 18, 2025 at 11:38 pm #297859100% agree C27, Which is exactly why I thought this thread could be a very useful thing to keep us crazy fans in the loop!
Quite honestly, we still have no idea what the heck happened with one of our top prospects, a.k.a. Tink hence last year. If he can figure that one out you’re gonna be the number one poster on this post!!
December 19, 2025 at 9:23 am #297872Sports Illustrated article from Dec. 12.
Also according to Google AI his second injury this past season was shoulder inflammation.
December 19, 2025 at 2:00 pm #297884Getting anything positive from Thompson and or Tink would be great. No reason to rush them in 2026, though, unless they just explode in aaa this year.
December 19, 2025 at 2:49 pm #297890KCB, in a perfect world the Cards sign 2-3 LHRP, Thompson is throwing well and is called up 7/31 or whatever the date is to take over a newly traded open spot. Not that I’m being specific or anything!
December 19, 2025 at 3:40 pm #297894CFICT- It almost seems like a dream when Hence was so highly ranked. Very little talk anymore. And people seem to have conceded he will be a reliever. Not me. His arm hasn’t fallen off yet. He has electric stuff. Keep stretching him out under the new development team.

ParticipantIt seems thatba lot of fans have jumped off the Hence-express. The Community has five pitchers ahead of him on their top-50. Keep is flat-out correct…. if we get anything out of him its a plus for us. His star is fading. Too bad…. once a valued commodity.
December 20, 2025 at 1:16 pm #297938NyquisT, I’m starting to get the feeling he might be Alex Reyes 2.0 unfortunately.
Depending on trade returns to add starters and the 2027 unknown situation, Hence, Hjerpe and Thompson might simply be good-great BP guys. I’m obviously not hoping for that but it’s not impossible either.
December 20, 2025 at 2:23 pm #297944Hopefully, there will be enough legit starter prospects to fill out the AAA rotation. They just lost a potentially useful arm in Winquest due in part to keeping so many perpetual IL list guys on the 40 man this winter. Hopefully, that sort of bungling will be coming to an end soon.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAre there any comps for Nootbaars surgery? Maybe I’m overly concerned because of the effect “heels” had on Albert’s career. That body area with Achilles and plantar phila-something, really shuts down players for an extended time, and can effect careers.
December 21, 2025 at 6:39 am #297966There is only one other case I know of. In 2018, Yoenis Cespedes of the Mets had the same heel surgeries as Nootbaar. The next year, before he came back from the heel, he fractured his ankle badly (not related). His career was pretty much done at age 32.

December 21, 2025 at 1:45 pm #297988Plantar fasciitis, which is what Albert suffered from is different than Noots surgery, basing that on what has been reported, what he had was different.
PF is typically from growing to fast so your ligaments don’t keep up(typically for normal humans) or not stretching enough, or overtraining, and not resting it.
December 28, 2025 at 12:03 am #298326Anyone heard/read a thing about Noot’s recovery?
December 31, 2025 at 2:41 am #298481I’ve heard Roby is out for all of 2026. Isn’t it possible he could pitch in September at Memphis, and be ready to do some AFL outings as well. He could pitch in relief.

jj-cf-stlParticipantDobbins on X says he was cleared for a full throwing program on Nov. 3rd.
January 6, 2026 at 10:04 am #298763We should get current updates on everyone in the next two weeks at Winter Warm-Up.
January 6, 2026 at 1:48 pm #298775Thanks Brian,
Noot, Hence, Hjerpe, Roby would be great to hear good news out of.
Regarding Hjerpe and Roby, just getting low stress BP innings in Memphis at the end of the year would surely put them on the right track for a great 2027.
I don’t know what the heck to think about Hence, doubtful anyone truly does. -
