Logan Gragg grew up about 10 miles from where I live so I hope he makes it to the majors.

Here is an article about him from a local paper last year.

Nice article, Scotty…..thanks. Let’s hope the local kid makes it. If he’s ever going to surpass his uncle in the cow department (Logan is presently 129 cows shy), he is going to most likely have to make it with the big club. Here’s to hoping that he owns 1000 Guernsey cows one day.

Thanks jnevel, 1953, and gsc for the info!

I’ll keep from getting too optimistic, while keeping Gragg on the watch list as a possible back of rotation guy. I do still wonder if something changed that got him the more recent success.

jnevel–I’d assumed Paniagua and Hence would not be in the big leagues next year, save possibly the very tail end if things go just right. Am I missing something? I’ve not had my eye on Cornwell or Pereira, so thanks for the flags. Looking at your list, I, too, am most excited re Graceffo. I figure Hudson, Pallante, Liberatore, McGreevy, and (now) Gragg as more of the coins in a coin jar for next year. Having some trouble seeing it with Woodford and Thomas.

Yeah, that list is all the possibles who we have in our organization today. But some are far more possible than others.

Woodford and Hudson are known quantities. Hudson has had a tough time since his injury, but he seems more back to normal recently. He has one year remaining before he’s a free agent.

Liberatore is certainly in line to be one of the 5 unless he falters. I know he hasn’t had very good results. I think a little bit of that has been bad luck from our porous defense and just being young and new. But a lot has to do with fastball velocity and how it’s been deployed.

Graceffo really needs more AAA innings because he got hurt for half this season. But if he comes to Spring Training strong, then I could definitely see it. Same with McGreevey except that he hasn’t been hurt.

Hence is the major wild card here. He could pitch in our bullpen today. He’d probably struggle with some walks but he’d likely get better overall results than VerHagan. The control is why he’s probably not ready to start yet. Plus, he still never goes over 5 innings. But it could conceivably happen if we want to push him.

Thomas and Gragg are probably just filler for emergencies or future bullpen pieces. Pereira is in the same boat except he’s a minor league free agent at year end and I doubt he goes on the 40-man.

Cornwell is probably too far out since he just got to AA. But it’s possible. He’s probably more in the Gragg/Thomas tier though where if he makes it, it’s more likely bullpen or emergency start.

Paniagua has missed much of the season due to injury. He was great last year. And he’s started off fairly well. But he’s at High A right now. The issue for him though is that he will be rule 5 eligible for his 2nd time and I could see the Cards putting him on the 40-man by year end and aggressively promoting him. Still, starting MLB rotation is a real long shot.

With Graceffo missing time, I wonder if he will go to AFL again.

The Cards were not impressed enough with Gragg to keep him at Memphis. He’s now back with Springfield.

Well, he was giving up half a run every 9 innings so that’s certainly something to work on . . .

Jnevel, It’s the deep metrics. Results doesn’t matter.

Maybe they needed to temporarily clear space on the AAA roster.

Don’t understand sending Gragg down. He may not be a big time prospect, but he has been very productive.

Memphis has Liberatore, McGreevy, Graceffo and they just added the new guy Lawrence.

This weekend they hope to acquire multiple MLB ready pitchers or arms who are close. The “close” ones will go to Memphis. Let’s see what the roster looks like on Tuesday.

I don’t understand signing retreads hoping for lightning in a bottle. Pitchers track records are what they revert back to. Lawrence, Barnes, Verhagen have terrible MLB numbers.

Lawrence’s MLB time is…not inspiring. But he had a sub-3 ERA in AAA in 2022. And the Cards might be on the verge of needing a lot of major league pitching. I can understand the desire to bring Lawrence in for a game or two to see if he’s a possibility, if there’s a need.
