John Brebbia will start on IL because he had Tommy John surgery this past month, in May. Had it in St. Louis. #Cardinals confirmed to media on Zoom conference call.
I imagine Fernandez stands a much better chance of making club, with Whitley getting his 40 man spot. Or maybe they will look into free agents? Or both?
Mo told us Brebbia’s surgery was on June 3. Media relations texted us that it was on the 8th. So right around there. Paletta did the surgery. Much more news coming.
Had Helsley already made the team in your opinions?
I can’t speak for others, but about five weeks ago, I predicted a 30-man roster and 20-man taxi squad. And yes, both Brebbia and Helsley were included among the 30. I will have to revisit it now, to come up with another 11 to get to 60.
Tough break for Brebbia and the Cardinals. John has been very effective for the Redbirds. I saw the team’s bull pen as a real strength and differentiator with a shortened Schedule. Oh well, next man up …
What inquiring minds really want to know is this: Does the surgery change Brebbia’s practice of starting a season clean-shaven, and letting his beard grow as the season progresses?
