Maybe the chances for any random player would be “remote” if you include every prospect over time. However, for the cream of the crop, I think it is not nearly as “remote” as you suggest.
In my limited purview, the best ones who reach St. Louis do stay. Among the current group – Molina, Wainwright, Carpenter, Wong and Martinez. DeJong is under contract to join them unless traded first. Looking ahead, I cannot see guys like Flaherty and Hicks going away early. In the recent past, Albert is an obvoius example. Even less prominent names like Lance Lynn and Michael Wacha remained and contributed until becoming eligible for free agency. I can see Dakota Hudson being in this latter group.
I see these guys being more common than a Colby Rasmus, for example. And even he did not leave due to his talent.
We always like to think we have a Ferrari in the garage. More likely it is a Ford and we will trade it in for a new model before the warranty runs out.
Bling, your comment needs to replace “Ford” with “Chevy”!! I have a MB sedan currently, great car, but have been begging the ball and chain for a 2005-2009 Mustang GT(I drive about twice a month).
By getting a manual transmission, it also makes the chances of it being stolen/car jacked in Chicago about .0001 percent!
I want to make three points about the management of Dylan Carlson this season by the STL front office.
#1) If Carlson had made the opening day roster, and stayed on the active roster or IL six consecutive seasons, he would be FA eligible for the 2026 season. By promoting him now in-season, he is on pace to be FA eligible for the 2027 season. In hindsight, we now know the difference between opening day this season and his promotion date, has been five games. STL would have traded 5 games this season, for the full 2026 season.
#2) The lineup currently needs Dylan’s expected production, especially with the loss of DeJong, and service time didn’t factor into his callup. Dylan may make Super2 status for the 2023 season, and he may not, he’s on the bubble. The lineup needs his help and he got promoted with outfielders Thomas and Dean unavailable.
#3) Another possibility for the FO could have been calling this a freak season and stalling Dylan’s promotion until 2 weeks into the 2021 season, making him FA eligible for the 2028 season. That I would have viewed as service time manipulation. They didn’t, the FO is willing to possibly pay Dylan four arb season salaries, to compete now.
Speaking of DeJong, I believe it’s been two weeks since his positive test. I wonder how often they are testing and if he will be able to come back sooner rather than later?
I’ve read they need two negative tests before coming back? Can anyone elaborate on that at all?

Fingers crossed Carlson gets red hot like in the beginning of spring training 1.0 and the Cards can put up a big showing in Chicago.
Not sure why there is the assumption that Carlson will remain up all year. If he doesn’t produce quickly he most likely will be sent back to Springfield when Thomas is healthy.
