I see no way Dunn provides more value than Gorman

The value is in having Gorman retool like Walker is doing, so as to become better.

One thing to note about Dunn is that he has increased his OPS 5 straight years.

Also while there is talk of little power his iso slugging this year is nearly .200 which is significant power.

bling says (apparently with a straight face):

I would send Gorman to Memphis to join Walker working on hitting ML pitching. A guy hitting .205 isn’t doing us any good despite the homer a week.

Thanks for replying, but I see that as a really bad idea. All Gorman does is lead the team in RBI, a club that is already having major trouble scoring. Doesn’t run production matter more than batting average? Just checking.

Gorman is two walks away from the team lead. He also has 50% more home runs than anyone else on the team.

So, you really want to send Gorman down and replace him with Nick Dunn? Seriously?

Yes, but Dunn is 27 years old and spent three of those five years in Double-A. So, yes, one would hope he improved while repeating the same level multiple times.

With Saggese and Prieto seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order and free agency coming this fall, it is hard for me to see Dunn having a future with St. Louis. But maybe he gets a Kramer Robertson/Irving Lopez brief cameo opportunity later in the season for being a good organizational soldier…

Gorman can only be so good hitting .210. He crushes mistakes, and nothing else. He has a chance to be better if he can be taught to hit.

That train left the station a long time ago. Gorman has over 1,000 career MLB plate appearances and a full season of Triple-A experience. That isn’t even close to Jordan Walker or Victor Scott, both of whom initially skipped Triple-A entirely.

Using your logic, why not send Carlson down to be “taught how to hit”? Or Donovan or ?????

In fact, send the whole underachieving bunch down!!!!

Donovan is 27 and they already tried that and ruined him. There is no hope for Carlson. The rest are 4A guys who wouldn’t be on the roster of a real team. And the rusty bronze busts collecting dust.

Gorman is 24 and can still learn to hit. He looks like he never worked on any aspect of the art and craft other that launch angle and exit velocity. Nobody ever did anything but point the gun and drool over the exit velocity. But he absolutely can’t do anything besides tie into a mistake.

Kyle Schwarber has made a lot of money hitting .200 with 40 HR’s while leading the league in K’s. Gorman can too.

Actually, I would be in favor of sending Carlson down

    Gorman can too.

Not with an OPS of .700, which is my point.

Unfortunately if we demoted or traded all of our players with an OPS under .700 we wouldn’t be able to field a team.

Note that a .703 OPS is currently league average for the NL. AL is almost identical. Offense is down everywhere.

Burleson, Winn, Herrera, Donovan, Nootbaar, and Contreras are all above average.

    Gorman and Arenado are average.

Goldschmidt, Siani, Carpenter, and Carlson are below average.

Contreras and Nootbaar are coming back. Edman may be coming back and almost can’t be a worse hitter than the CF production we’ve gotten thus far. Goldschmidt has been hitting better. There’s hope.

Is there one person here who thinks Dunn can’t top Fermin’s .434 OPS? And btw for the month of June that OPS is .385. Fermin may be solid defensively but never heard anyone say his defense was great. Just don’t understand how a team that needs offense can put up with that level. I am sure there are a 100 minor leaguers who could be acquired and put up better numbers even if you don’t like Dunn. If I am a player I am pissed at Mo for not giving us the best shot to win.
Even playing occasionally I think Dunn easily tops .435 OPS. And who knows who is the next Bo Hart? It surely isn’t Fermin

Too late to matter. Nootbaar is starting his rehab tonight in Springfield. As soon as he is ready, I would guess after the weekend, Fermin will almost certainly be sent down. And Dunn could not replace Crawford because he does not play SS.

And we know how Fermin plays instead of how Dunn plays. What does that do for us?

Like I said, Fermin is going down to Memphis very soon. Maybe if he keeps hitting, Dunn will get a shot next time they need someone. But neither are going to play anyway.

Why do I get the feeling that Dunn is inching closer to Burly, Woodford, and Saggese cult like status?

I like Dunn. He sure deserves a chance over Fermin.

Fermin has 6 or 7 starts. How many would he have if he was hitting above his weight? Dunn may not do better or he may be Bo Hart. Pretty sure Fermin is not another Bo Hart.

It is repetitive, but folks don’t seem to be getting that Fermin is highly likely to be sent down as soon as Nootbaar is ready – in the next few days. So saying Dunn is a better option than Fermin doesn’t matter except for bragging rights since they will both be in Memphis very soon.

Or Noot pulls an Edman or a Matz and reinjures himself during rehab

I only buy the don’t waste your time because Noot is back soon because of the 40 man roster issue. Of course when you add Reposa for less than 24 hours it is hard to make the case that they are concerned about 40 man roster spots.

That are not going to let Gorman flounder the whole rest of the season. Then what?

(He hit .140 for the whole month with no end in sight. )

Dunn is a relatively poor fielder – almost certainly no better than average. He plays 2 positions that we are stacked at.

This is what I’ve always thought too. Is Dunn even capable of playing 2B at the ML level? I realize Gorman has dipped into negative territory defensively, but his peak is way higher than guys like Dunn and Fermin.
