Boy, it’s a good thing he has wheels because he’s on the fast track. His first baseball game above AA will have him situated in CF at Dodger Stadium on opening day…Haha!

    Like Vince Coleman – Hit .200, run .100 = .300, lol

To answer Brian’s question, I would think Young will get the DFA, but they could be working on a small trade as well. Maybe they will trade Fermin!
As far as who plays CF if Scott goes down, Siani would be the first choice, but Koperniak started 13 games in CF last year for Memphis. Nobody is talking about him, but I thought he hit pretty well in Spring.

Rivas should be cut before Fermin or Young. His position is really redundant with Baker, Carp, and Goldy all on the 40-man.

As a reminder, Young hit .081 this spring while Rivas hit a whopping .194. They are redundant as corner infield/outfielders. No way they would cut Fermin loose. Too thin on the middle infield.

Koperniak might be able to cover CF in a pinch only. Let’s hope they don’t need to dip any deeper than they are.

I read a blurb that said Carlson will be out ‘several weeks’ so I guess if true that is 3 to 5?

Have we forgotten about the former Maryland Terp who hit over .300 last season at Memphis? With an OBP over .400? Is he still in the organization? He doesn’t seem to get any respect.

Right now, as things appear, I’d guess we will get Gray and Nootbaar back in 2 weeks, Middleton back in about 3 weeks, Carlson back in about 4 weeks, and Edman back in 4-10 weeks. I’m really not sure on Rom but I wasn’t counting on him for a big impact anyway this season.

    Willie McGee’s debut was May 10, 1982.
    Vince Coleman’s debut was April 18, 1985.

Assuming Firmin goes now, then when Edman, Noot and Carlson return it will be Siani, Crawfard and Burleson going. Right? Are there other possibilities?

If you’re trying to count Scott as staying up, instead of Crawford as the backup SS, I doubt it.

As I suspected, Fermin was optioned out and Young has been DFAed.

If Scott plays well surely he will stay up.

Dunn only had 2 PA all spring. Maybe what’s clouding his future is that Terps are very slow runners.

Edman, Carlson and even Noot are potential CF’ers and all three of them are now victims of infirmities. Who steps in when Scott goes down? Let’s face it…Manning up in the OF for the St. Louis, Cardinals is getting to be a little like being ordered into the skirmish line of an infantry squad.

Or like being Spinal Tap’s drummer

I’ve had multiple shoulder injuries from impact falls. Shoulder sprains. I could figure 4-6 weeks recovery. For normal use. I can’t even imagine throwing a baseball.

BB, Scott? I’d expect Noot back first and since he’s CF friendly, they could demote any of three outfielders. I doubt they DFA Crawford and the backup SS role.

The former Maryland Terp is going to have trouble getting at-bats with Memphis, too, as I expect the starting infield to be Baker, Saggese, Fermin and Prieto. Being a second baseman in this organization right now is not a great place to be for an underdog.

Carlson will officially start his rehab with Memphis tomorrow night (Tuesday).

Dunn’s problem may be that his line in Memphis last year sported an OBP that exceeded his SLG. The Cardinals have an aversion to that type of hitter as Brendan Donovan could tell you.

We will be losing a significant element to whatever success we have had if Siani goes out when Carlson returns. Yeah, he can’t hit, but it seems like he has contributed anyway. To the offense with advancing runners and his speed on the bases, and of course defensively. Carlson should hit better, but he is likely to be not far from the Mendoza line vs RHP, so we will have to see if we are actually any better off. Another consideration will be that if you are going with Carlson as your everyday starter you have to have plan B ready to roll.

Herrera has cooled off considerably, 1 for 21 the last 14 days, so I’d prefer Pages down and Siani as backup CF to Carlson.

I think sending Pages down when Carlson is back is the right move. You can then move Donovan to full time DH/Util with Noot in LF, Siani in CF, and Carlson in RF. That is our best defensive alignment.

I hope Siani sticks in the roster, but it will be hard for him to stay when Edman gets back.

I’d like to see Donovan, Carlson, Nootbar as the starting outfield once Carlson is back.

    At least I think I would…

Just hope MO thinks of that.
