I think Ricardo Sanchez’ primary role is to help our AAA batters get used to looking at pitches coming from a lefthanded pitcher. Makes sense.

I believe you have been afflicted with the classic “Provenitis simplis.” The Cards have bats; they just haven’t quite done it at the MLB level yet. I, for one, am weary of signing Fowlers and Leakes that provide little value and block guys who could be quite solid. Between O’Neill, Carlson, Bader and Thomas I’d bet we will have an above average outfield, and the infield will be fine as well.
CC is going to be crushed, too. Urias has a lot of backers. As I wrote, I think he will quickly get a shot elsewhere and I don’t think MLB is out of the question for him at all. It just isn’t going to be with StL.
This is not to kid CC, but sometimes those sophisticated measuring tools like wRC+ simply don’t tell the entire story.
Why would this end the debate? It will be several years before we know who the better player was.

Well it ends the debate as to who will be playing for St. Louis. Even if Urias doesn’t get claimed on waivers the Cardinals have made their feelings obvious on who is ahead of who in the pecking order.
Cards must see him as an RP.

It’s always interesting to pick up a pitcher who has never relieved on a consistent basis. Who knows, his stuff tick up a few mphs.
