Going into the 2020 season Romero was MLB pipeline’s 10th ranked Phillies prospect. He was almost strictly a starter in the minors

No options for 2020 sounds right and makes sense but I am not 100% sure.

Oh yeah, bring back DeJug. He is a solid .190 hitter. Was hoping the Cards would trade him instead of Sosa.

At least DeJong was hitting .366/.471/.854/1.325 in 41 July ABs. Hopefully, he can keep something productive going.

CC, if you search jojo at rotowire, his player page has a breakdown of every transaction / movement since his contract was purchased.

Fwiw, Cots and Fangraphs both show 2 option yrs left of 3, as of Jan 22′, so they think he has used one.

Brian may get the scoop for us too.

So who is our next replacement in case Dejong or Edman get injured? Winns eta would be next year at the earliest. No one at Memphis catches the eye. Perez would be good as a glove only replacement, but he wouldn’t likely be added, and likely gone as a free agent after this season.

    Maybe he will. 😉

I like the move for Romero. He has a very good fastball. He just needs a better slider or change. If and that’s an if… the staff can help him refine a breaking ball and improve his change, then we may have salvaged a good prospect. He can bring it. Remember him from spring training.

Something happened to Sosa this season. He fell off a cliff –
    .189/.244/.270/.515.

Weird. He’s been a decent hitter in the past.

I think Sosa will be better than DeJong over the remainder of their careers, but we will see. Obviously DeJong is being given every chance possible with the guaranteed money. The Phillies have the veteran Didi as their shortstop, so not sure how much Edmundo will play with that club. Maybe they will flip him, or move Didi.

At least the club got a pitcher, which is where we are struggling most. I am not sold on Edman as the starting shortstop as he has really struggled the last month. If DeJong hits at all and Gorman gets it going, Tommy may revert to a super-sub ala Donovan. One of those two could be used in a deal to get a pitcher as well.

Of course, I do not agree with anything that you said about Edman.

Surely you can agree that Edman has struggled in the last month. That is fact (.498 OPS in July). For the season, he is almost exactly on the line of an average MLB player offensively at 99 OPS+. That is still better this season than many including Knizner, O’Neill, Bader, Dickerson and Molina. For his MLB career to date, Edman’s OPS+ is exactly 100, so his 2022 overall is typical for him. (This is offense only and we know his defense is a major plus.)

I’m onboard with GameCard. One bad slump and it’s as if Edman is destined by some to “super” utility man status. Trust me in that there’s 30 other teams out there who would gladly take Tommy off our hands…..and play him every day. Look what he’s done for this team already in his young career. Loyalty, common sense and intelligence are three vital ingredients for success. Hopefully this organization is viewing Tommy Edman with those three things in mind. He’s already been scolded by being dropped behind Knizner in the batting lineup. Let’s hope they they do not take any further drastic measures. He’ll snap out of his funk this coming week….. hopefully today.

Sure hope the Cards are able to work miracles with this pitcher like the Giants and Dodgers do.

Edman is a solid player but that’s it. He has his hot spells and his cold spells. I like all his attributes but I’m not going to over value him.

Edman is way more than a solid player. He makes the Cardinals go and right now he isn’t going and neither are they.

    Edman 2020

    BB/K:
    April 9/9 (1 to 1 ratio)
    May 10/25 (1 to 2.5)
    June 10/26 (1 to 2.6)
    July 6/18 (1 to 3)

    Ops+:
    April 160 (.310 BAbip)
    May 96 (.322)
    June 96 (.321)
    July 41 (.243)

A contact batter that loses his BB% and has a bad BAbip month will struggle big time. Not just Edman, anyone with his skill set.
When Edman gets in his hack-a-holic mode and the ball won’t find the holes in the D, well, here we are.

Gorman has a lower BAbip than Edman this month, .237 and .243

They have nearly the same BB/K, 6/18 and 9/26, but Gorman is a 102 ops+ for July vs Edmans 41.

    SLG%: Edman .253, Gorman .435

When the balls in play aren’t finding holes, power to put the ball in the seats can carry a bad BAbip month.

Edman is a god player who is solid on defense, and a bit streaky on offense. I am disappointed that he is not trying to bunt now and then in this slump and use his speed, as well as take what the defense gives him.

That seems like an outlier for him. He strikes me as a guy who if he is not hitting, would do anything to beat you another way. Sort of a Pete Rose type. And maybe he has tried that as I do not see every game. But there are opportunities I have seen where he is not doing it. So I am admittedly a little down on him right now.

Game card, we are just going to have to disagree. I feel he’s a solid player which means he’s good basically. I’m not putting him up with goldy or arenado which would be next their.
