The Super Two cutoff this year is 2.132. News broken by the AP. At 2.145, Andre Pallante qualifies.

jj-cf-stlParticipantMLBTR has an article up about a Donovan extension.
January 9, 2025 at 8:36 am #274553
jj-cf-stlParticipantWorking on “multi-year deal”, not extension. Wishful thinking on my part.
January 9, 2025 at 8:40 am #274555Thanks Brian
January 9, 2025 at 8:51 am #274558You are welcome.
Almost as fast as John Denton posted that Donovan was “close” to a multi-year deal, he reversed course, saying the two sides only had “minimal” talks and it isn’t likely, after all. He likely got different stories from the two sides. So goes rumor reporting…

jj-cf-stlParticipantWhen in Rome…..
Knee-jerk it is!January 9, 2025 at 9:10 am #274563So goes rumor reporting…
It’s actually gotten worse than that. It’s not even a rumor. I can live with rumors. A lot of It’s just made up.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’m in favor of extending up to three FA seasons of Brendan Donovan without “club friendly” attached.
Nootbaar also, three FA yrs. I’ll drop anchor on those two, gladly. Noot needs a full platform season. A pillow arb season in 25′, then extend.
Trust the obp, both.
January 9, 2025 at 10:41 am #274571jj, I agree. They are needed until the Cardinals can develop better players in the other positions. By that time, the Cardinals may have used up their useful major league years. OBP still means a lot to me. A well-rounded lineup is the most dangerous.
January 9, 2025 at 1:07 pm #274578MLB's arbitration deadline has passed. The #STLCards and Ryan Helsley settled at $8.2 million for 2025, per a source, and will avoid a hearing. Big pay day for one of baseball's best relievers last year.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHere’s a little something about Noots obp I’ve been watching for a couple seasons Forsch.
Matt Carpenters slash thru age 26:
.283 / .359 / .447 / .806 (120 ops+) 359 PA’sLars Nootbaars slash thru age 26:
.246 / .348 / .425 / .774 (115 ops+) 1379 PA’sFirst, there is one thousand PA’s in Lars favor, which jumps off the page.
Matt’s .283 BA is built on a .335 BAbip.
League avg for 2011 was .295, for 2012 it was .297, he’s running a little hot.Lars .246 BA on a .282 BAbip. Lars bip is .010 under league avg (.292) during 21′-24′.
Knowing the BA circumstances, what stands out for Lars obp, is the added .102 points of obp, beyond his BA during that timeframe.
Carpenters +100 pts of obp, over his BA wasn’t established until after his 7th season, and over 3,000 PA’s.
That’s not uncommon among elite players, but when we start looking at mid-tier players, that added +.100 obp kinda disappears.
Isolated plate discipline (IsoD) in todays game is a back burner item to slg%.
Thru age 26, Carps K% was +8.1 over his BB%. Lars is at + 6.7%
Noot looks much more established in PA’s going into their age 27 seasons and we all really liked Carps 27-29 seasons. TBD.

January 9, 2025 at 3:13 pm #274583The Cardinals have also come to terms with Romero, but I haven’t seen the amount yet. The other three are going to hearing – Nootbaar, Donovan and Pallante.
January 9, 2025 at 3:49 pm #274588To recap: The Cardinals settled with three of their six arb-eligible players.
Figures:
Ryan Helsley – $8.2 million
JoJo Romero – $2.26 million
John King – $1,605,000Did not settle with Lars Nootbaar, Brendan Donovan, Andre Pallante #STLCards

January 10, 2025 at 8:49 am #274620The team and Pallante are going to hearing over a difference of $175,000 ??
January 10, 2025 at 8:52 am #274621
stlcard25ParticipantThat’s poor Bill Dewitt for you.
January 10, 2025 at 11:47 am #274627The team is so poor its actually going to arbitration over less than $2M lol
When do we start getting “Sell the team” chants?
January 10, 2025 at 12:41 pm #274629I think the “file and trial” approach is bad business. In order to “win” your case in front of the arbiter the team has to explain why the player is not worthy and list all of their faults basically to their face. Then come opening day say “go get em champ”! Human psychology doesn’t work that way.
January 10, 2025 at 12:46 pm #274631
jj-cf-stlParticipantCut that number in half if they meet at the midpoint bling.
January 10, 2025 at 1:02 pm #274633Many fans get frustrated with the arbitration process, but it works the way the players want it to. They negotiated it into the CBA. If they present a good enough case, they get more money and if they don’t, they don’t.
Before arbitration, owners could pay any less than six year players anything they wanted over the minimum scale. And it was much less than these players get now.
The alternative is for the team to pay everyone what they want. That is called free agency and it is earned at six years. That is the system.
January 10, 2025 at 1:04 pm #274634The midpoint is not part of the process. File and trial means no more negotiating. Once they pass this point, and plan to go to hearing, one side or the other wins. No compromise.
