RBK, with the success Burleson has had at 25. Leading the team in HRs and RBIs. He and his agent could solicit an extension with a nice pay raise. Other teams do it with outstanding young producers. If they don’t comply, Burly and his agent may have a long memory later. Burleson could have some amazing numbers the next two or three seasons before they might have to pay him big bucks. Maybe I have a better grasp of the potential situation than you think.

ParticipantYes, I’m sure if/when his agent threatens to take a bat-only defensive liability with a 110 OPS+ and 1.4 WAR to the free agent market in *2029*, the Cardinals will be quaking in their boots.
August 25, 2024 at 9:06 pm #265517I cannot decide which is worse, the person who hijacks his own thread or those who feed it.
August 25, 2024 at 9:19 pm #265521Probably my fault, Brian.
I sometimes feel that if I use data and facts to show a poster the flaw(s) in his thinking, he will understand and walk away a little wiser. And then BANG!!! Before I know it I’m down into a “Who is the better hitter, Judge, Ohtani, or Burleson?” discussion.
August 26, 2024 at 5:39 pm #265581It will be interesting to see how Matthews’ future MLB success compares to the top starting pitchers drafted in the ’24 MLB draft. Top five picks, Chase Burns at #2 and Hagen Smith at #5.
August 26, 2024 at 8:26 pm #265618Matthews is likely better, right now, than all of the high priced starting pitchers Mo signed in the off season and has since, the one, recently traded for. Just an opinion. My point, for the present and the future, call this young stud up to see what he;s got. What’s to lose?

Confidence.
Development
Control time.August 27, 2024 at 5:12 am #265650And a hearty “welcome back!”

Definitely the former. But I, too, am amazed people keep falling for the trap over and over.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…
We have to be over 100 by now…
August 27, 2024 at 10:32 am #265686I think they are secretly a team who like to hijack threads together or perhaps is the same person with multiple screen names.
August 29, 2024 at 3:15 pm #265919Wow! Quinn Matthews hasn’t pitched a game in AAA but is “likely better than Gray”.
The future is bright.
Gray was pretty great today.
August 29, 2024 at 5:18 pm #265937As much as I am really excited about Mathews (I have him as the Cards #1 prospect), it is premature to say he is better than Gray. Gray is by far our best pitcher even with the bad turns lately.
