If this game goes to the 9th with the score remaining 4-1, these Cubs are in a world of it with 1.67 ERA Miller in line and at the ready to seal it shut. Miller ended the ’26 season with 38 SV’s which tied him for the NL lead in that category with the guy I call the Bogsider from Derry/Londonderry…I’ll mention once again that I thought it was highly improbable for any closer to ever lead his league in SV’s while flashing a far less than stingy 4.08 ERA. It’s a genuine baseball oddity in my estimation.

Haha…They’re amped up for Miller time in SD!

Hoerner makes a little noise with a 1 out double.

That’s that…Tony Gwynn’s smiling. I kind of like these Padres. Never underestimate a team that has a Manny…

That’s that, alright. Cubs pitching was better than I thought it would be.

I’ve never been the sort that wanted to speed up the game with a bunch of new rules designed to hurry up and get a baseball game over with, so I’ve enjoyed this day of almost non-stop Big League playoff action. I’m going to take full advantage of it while it’s still around and watch every game that I possibly can because, not only is baseball my favorite game, but before I know it, I’ll be freezing my poor backside whilst shoveling the driveway in Jan…I’m thinking about April already.

Happy October! The Cardinals and cubs will play the same number of games this month!

And the Cardinals will have the better draft position than the Flubs. As things turned out, I’d take our season over their’s any day of the week, Scotty. Is their truly any greater joy on this planet than seeing the Bears or the cubbies walking off the field with their heads down in the playoffs?

It’s not often when the post season home team loses the decisive game. I’m hoping that trend is bucked tonight in Atlanta. Going into the series, I bet fairly heavy on the Phillies to advance to the next round. I don’t lose bets on baseball very often, so you bettors out there just may want to wager a few pesos on Harper & Co. pulling the upset.

Pugs, historically, the winner of the first game of the 3-game Wild Card series advances to the next round of the playoffs 15 of 16 times.

Cubs eliminated. If they were really serious about winning, they would have spent an additional hundred million, or so, on payroll.
Anybody could have told them that a stingy payroll of only 256M$ wasn’t going to get it.

Indeed, my back is definitely to the wall on tonight’s game, Mud. But I still like the Phillies to come out victorious. I’m calling it 6-4 Philadelphia with Bohm bombing one into the bleachers with a man aboard.

And din-din revelations are still in play during post season games. I’m heading on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse around 4pm today for some chicken Alfredo, asparagus spears, baked potato, fried mushrooms and for dessert, I have a big fat homemade banana cream pie awaiting my return from Johnny’s.

Taking a gander at the meteorological conditions for tonight’s deciding game at Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta.

All appears clear in the southeast corner of the US. At least according to the Doppler Radar. However, it is once again around 90 degrees here in SW Indiana and if the greater metropolitan Atlanta area is also subject to similar heat and humidity one of those sudden popup thunderstorms could appear. My money is on a clear night in Atlanta tonight.

And does anybody think the Phillies will score 10 runs in the first like the Redbirds did back in 2019 in the deciding game?

That’s a wonderful thought, but I’d take half that many runs in the top of the 1st tonight, Rat. Boy 90 degrees! It’s been rainy and in the beautiful 60’s up here in Wisconsin. I really don’t know how people can live in states south of Illinois? So hot and humid with nasty storms. Sure we get snow up here, but nothing like they get in Massachusetts and other locations. We rarely see bad tornadoes up and of course no hurricanes and such. And you can’t go more than a few miles here in any direction without running into a lake, river or babbling brook. And even with all of the different water sources, bad flooding in these parts are a rarity. I don’t know much about the validity of global warming, but if the planet continues to heat up, the storms will get nastier, making many of the southern states undesirable. Looking for a nice place to live? Come on up here.

A bit of an odd pitching matchup for this evening’s elimination game in the sense that Weiss will call on his BP in the form of LHP’er Kerr to start the game in an obvious attempt to neutralize Schwarber and Harper. Kerr has a nice looking ERA of 1.67 but has only appeared in 9 games this season in which he’s accumulated a total workload of 18.1 IP’ed, so I expect him to exit after the 1st inning. After that, word around the campfire is that Weiss will hand the baseball to RHP’er Holmes. At first glance it seems like a reasonably sound approach, but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to get cute and clever in an elimination game. Mattingly goes with the more conventional approach and hands the baseball to Nola who featured a lackluster ’26 season, but has almost 56 innings of post-season work and is no stranger to a pitcher’s mound when high stakes are on the order of the day. I’m guessing Pugs will collect on his wager come settle up day…

I am rooting for the Bravos in this one, but won’t be all that upset if the Quaker’s advance. My mom was from Georgia so my uncles and cousins and all down that way are big Braves fans. And they have great uniforms. 😁

Oh, and am thrilled to see the White Sox advance and the Cubs drop out. That was a quick ending for the Northsiders. Both them and the Red Sox were thoroughly out-played.

Apoarently sonny gray and contreras called out their manager for removing him early,i agree with them gray was only at 70 pitches.

Yeah, that was a weird decision by Chad Tracy. Sometimes managers over think the whole platoon thing instead of just using your best player.

Yeah, it was one of those decisions that could be called none too swift, but what would really be a bizarre occurance would be to remove a SP’er in the 6th inning of post-season game who was working a 2 hit shutout on 75 pitches…Only a genuine whiz-kid could dream up such a clever notion as that one.

Indeed, betting on Philadelphia to win this series is pretty much a slam dunkaroo……literally like taking candy from a sleeping baby. No way Atlanta wins this game.

Kerr got out of the 1st inning unscathed.

No score heading to the last of the 1st.

Maybe the Braves will put up 10 runs in the 1st.

And I think the Phillies/Doyers would be a more entertaining NLDS than the Braves/Doyers.

Harris Jr slams a big three run dong in the home half of the 1st.

    3-0 Atlanta after one inning.
