The Guardians push it to the limit. I think they would give the Rays a tougher time than the White Sox, but am still hoping for a miracle turn around by those Pale Hose.
Again though, the Guards have been a consistent contender in recent years and have a great organization. Went to a game in Cleveland in 2024 and really enjoyed it – nice venue and passionate fans. They played the Tigers that night and the Detroit battery was former Cardinals Jack Flaherty and Carson Kelly.
Obviously the Guardians have seized the momentum in this last standing division series and are now the favorites. An all road win series thus far.

ParticipantWelli think boone messed up in the game wednesday. I think when fried gave up the hit leading off the 6th i believe, he should have taken fried out. Instead he left him in and bang you have a 2 run homer. During season i believe you ride tbe starter out there. But in the playoffs esp with an elimination game you have to go with the probabilities. A pitcher starting his third time through order vs a new pitcher. Sure the reliever could give the homer up but that would be om him not the manager. Fried had done his job to that point but in playoffs you have to manage in the moments. To me rays were better team so in the end prob wouldnt have mattered.

ParticipantSaw where mlb is proposing going back to 154 game schedule with a day off every week. Also make the divisional round 7 games. Allow the higher seed in wild card round, lowest winning division winner, to choose their opponent. Something similiar in next round. Only thing not offered that i would like is to extend wild card series to 5 games or at least give one of the teams a home game. I think fans of teams that make playoffs deserve a home game in the playoffs.
October 9, 2026 at 1:24 pm #320800Pretty soon they’ll have so many post-season games to play that they’ll be able to scrap the regular season.

ParticipantWhile i dont really care i would prefer the guardians over white sox. I dont loath the white sox like i do the cubs but its been far longer since cleveland has won the world series so having them or rays would be great. Hopefully brewers win and we get pretty much new teams in the world series.
October 9, 2026 at 4:58 pm #320815I recall back when Big Frank (Thomas) was drafted, the Cardinals could have taken him but took a kid named Paul Coleman instead. Coleman was more in the mold of Vince, a speedy guy. A couple of buddies of mine were livid that they did not take Thomas, and rightly so as it turns out.

October 9, 2026 at 5:22 pm #320816I recall in the early 90’s when the Cardinals were pretty doggone bad my son, who was just coming of age as an 8 or 9 year old as a baseball fan, was a huge fan of Frank Thomas. And so was I. People sometimes overlook the fact that “The Big Hurt” had a stretch of 10 or 11 seasons early in his career that were as outstanding or better than many of the all-time greats, including Pujols. In any case, it’s a shame that he was never a member of a team that was able to advance to a WS
October 9, 2026 at 5:47 pm #320818I’ve tried to watch games and care about the mlb playoffs especially with the lockout looming but the truth is I just don’t.
October 9, 2026 at 6:30 pm #320824Understandable ZTR. I still enjoy the little I can watch. Most games are on services I don’t get so I mainly watch the highlights the next morning while working out.
I was thinking about the upcoming CBA negotiations. What they should do is get together and go, “Look people, we got a great thing going here and we all are making plenty of money, so let’s hammer out the details and move forward.”
Why can’t this stuff be worked out without dragging on and on and sides making disparaging comments towards each other? They are better off working it out together so get ‘er done!
October 9, 2026 at 6:35 pm #320825I do the precise same thing regarding NFL football, ZTR, and at one time I was a rabid and raging fan of professional football before the game began to quickly deteriorate during the onset of the 90’s. Same with the NCAA basketball tournament before the endless hype and corporate sponsorship took center stage at around the same time that the NFL took a nose dive. Big League baseball is my last bastion concering any interest in professional sports and I can certainly sense the possibility that even that last bastion could vanish. That’s a shame, but it’s the reality.
October 9, 2026 at 6:49 pm #320828I am similar to you guys in some ways. I was an NFL fan as well as college football, but both have lost some of my interest with the changes and overly corporate backdrop. My last interest in college football is the Mountain West, which is still somewhat regional but even it is getting chipped away.
And the NCAA basketball tourney used to be a big event for me, and I would get in pools and watch it, but now I don’t even follow it.
MLB and baseball in general still hold my interest. Baseball is the sport I was always best at and my first love in sports. I still play too, in an old guys’s softball league. I don’t think my interest will drop out, but never say never.
October 9, 2026 at 7:34 pm #320829I’m guessing that baseball stays imbeded in one’s heart the longest because it’s the sport that’s most associated with young boyhood, dads, and the lost innocence of youth. You had your mitt, your bat and your pals and if you weren’t playing catch, hot box or indian ball from sun-up to sundown, you were suiting up for your little league game or following your favorite team and players via radio, trading cards, the box score, the occasional televised road game or, best of all, fun at the ol’ ballpark where an autograph or a souvenir carried as much weight and prestige as did a Corvette or Boss 302 in years to come. Baseball is just what we did for the spring, summer and early autumn. At any rate, I’m aware that time moves on, but baseball was the first in rank game of my youth before Nancy came along…Haha!

October 9, 2026 at 8:01 pm #320832Way off topic, but I happened to look up and glance over at the TV to see the image of some poor dumb SOAB dressed in a bright red slicker coat and gripping a microphone in his hand whilst standing out in the driving wind and rain associated with a hurricane somewhere near Pensecola in FL. He was soaking wet and being tossed about by strong gusts of wind and looked as though he didn’t possess the common sense that God bestowed upon a Billy goat…These TV networks will do anything at all in order to obtain a ratings boost. In any case, I genuinely hope he doesn’t get zapped to the point of having to be swept into an ashtray by a downed power line.
October 9, 2026 at 8:31 pm #320835I mostly grew up in a new subdivision where there were vacant lots still waiting for houses to be built. One lot in particular was our baseball playground. One Spring some of the dads, including my dad, built a backstop for us kids. We would have games going there all day long. It was a lot of that, riding bikes, collecting cards and going to little league practice.
Come to think of it, I still do all those same things, only substitute “softball practice” for “little league practice.” 😁
October 9, 2026 at 8:53 pm #320837Haha…We were fortunate enough to have had a guy named Mr. Weber who’s house stood on about 2 acres of land that was covered with grass that he would keep in better shape than did any groundkeepers that took care of the fields that we played organized little league games on. He would get out there on his rider while dressed out in his bibs and straw hat in order to mow and manicure that green grass in a manner that looked almost as good as any field you’d see at a Big League ballpark. We’d normally meet up by around 9 or 10 in the morning and, depending on how many guys we had, play some form of baseball on his property nearly every day until dusk when the purple martins or barn swallows and bats would show up for their daily skeeter supper…Later on I came to realize that the old guy did all that hard work because he enjoyed seeing us kids have a nice place to show up and play baseball and have fun. Mr. Weber was first rate.

October 10, 2026 at 5:09 pm #320870FYI here,
The remnants of Hurricane Isaias are headed directly towards the Cleveland area. ETA looks to be right around the time of first pitch. They will be lucky if they get this one in. Stay tuned…….
October 10, 2026 at 5:41 pm #320872They have had a couple of days to plan this and you would think they could have moved the game up. But maybe they felt it was not right to do that to fans that had planned around it.
October 10, 2026 at 7:00 pm #320877From the looks of the latest Doppler Radar I see no way this game gets played tonight.
Should know in the next few minutes. A delay does not look feasible either.
October 10, 2026 at 7:17 pm #320878Looks like the game is being played from what I can tell, although I don’t get TBS so I don’t have a live look in.

October 10, 2026 at 8:20 pm #320885After going 0 for 9 in the first 2 games of this ALDS, Ramirez is now 5 for 11 with 2 HR’s and 7 RBI’s so far in these final 3 games. The White Sox may want to try and work around him from here on out.
October 10, 2026 at 8:25 pm #320886Williams has now placed a Gibson-like 11 K’s up on the board thru 5 innings of work for the Indians.
October 10, 2026 at 8:29 pm #320890This game now goes into the books whether or not the great tsunami of ’26 washes away The Jake in CLE.
October 10, 2026 at 9:09 pm #320892Hunter Gaddis on to tame the ChiSox in the top of the 7th in a 2-0 Indians ballgame. I said it earlier this week, but it warrants repeating. I love what this Hunter Gaddis brings to the table. There’s 2 relievers I want our Cardinals to pursue this off season……Gaddis and Boozer……and as I say this Hunter mows them down 1-2-3 in succession, all via the K route. Anyway, having Gassy, Gaddis and Boozer as the core of the Cardinal bullpen nest egg would be pretty darn sweet.
October 10, 2026 at 9:33 pm #320893I guess me and the Doppler Radar were wrong.
2-0 Indians in the last of the 8th.
Looking grim for the ChiSox.
October 10, 2026 at 9:42 pm #320894I guess me the Doppler Radar were wrong.
Not to worry, Rat…….even Wade Boggs swung and missed every blue moon. Over the years, Rat’s meteorological prowess has been second to none. You’re the Babe Ruth of weather forecasting, Rat!
