cardsfan64ParticipantGreat to see the explosion of runs at Memphis! Several errors helped inflate their numbers, but they took advantage of the situation! It will be fun to watch several new faces at that level.
April 3, 2025 at 8:38 am #278635The starting pitching thus far has been concerning. 4 starts now. None has gone over 4 innings. Fortunately, the team has 831 relievers in the pen (something close to that anyway).
Here are the starts:
4 innings/4 ERs/6 Hits/1 Walk
4 innings/2 ERs/4 Hits/3 Walks
2 1/3 innings/4 ERs/4 Hits/1 Walk
3 innings/3 ERs/5 Hits/3 WalksApril 3, 2025 at 11:14 am #278638You forgot Tuesday’s clunker by Bedell.
1 1/3 innings, 5 ER, 5 H, 3 BB
Through five starts, one pass through the rotation, Memphis’ starter ERA is 10.80, 19th in the 20-team International League. Buffalo, who they are crushing now, is last.
The pen ERA is 4.18, eighth in the league.
McGreevy starts turn two tonight.
Having said that, let’s not lose sight of the fact the Memphis offense is leading the IL in almost every hitting category, including hits, runs, average, slugging and OPS.
It should balance out over time, of course…
April 3, 2025 at 11:56 am #278639Not sure how I missed Bedell! I think I’ve mostly blocked him out in my mind as a prospect so when he pitches, I don’t tune in or care.
I think McGreevey, Mathews, and Graceffo were all a little better in their first game than the numbers bore out. Hopefully that translates to more success going forward.

ParticipantThe Redbird lineup is imposing and down right explosive so far and as good as it has been the starting pitching has been, well, downright very disappointing. We need to see better starts this time through. Those bats aren’t going to stay red-hot forever. Kudos to the bullpen for cleaning up some of messes that they are handed over.
April 3, 2025 at 3:26 pm #278649Tonight’s Memphis Redbirds game against the Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A, Toronto Blue Jays) has been postponed due to weather.
The game will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Friday, April 4 with first pitch of game one scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CDT.
April 3, 2025 at 4:15 pm #278651I had just mentioned a week ago how the Memphis roster looked strong on pitching and weak on position players so right on cue it has been the total opposite so far. We shall see how long it goes this way.

April 5, 2025 at 8:06 am #278735I’d be curious to know if Prieto was related to Nieto…You know, the guy that took Ted Simmons #23.
April 5, 2025 at 9:26 am #278738They got two in yesterday, but none today…
Today’s Memphis Redbirds game against the Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A, Toronto Blue Jays) has been postponed due to weather.
The game is scheduled to be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Sunday, April 6 with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1:05 p.m. CDT.
April 6, 2025 at 9:38 am #278765The #stlcards system was 1-3 on Saturday as Memphis’ game was postponed. April 6, 2025 at 11:02 am #278773Two games lost for Memphis that won’t be made up.
🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚨
Sunday's game has been canceled due to the weather. These games will not be made up and single-game ticket buyers for today's game will receive a credit. pic.twitter.com/i8CCW1Azyx— Memphis Redbirds (@memphisredbirds) April 6, 2025
April 6, 2025 at 12:41 pm #278781Nice to see McGreevy with a really good bounceback game. Hoping he gets his shot at the MLB level soon. Mathews with a really shaky outing again on his control. I’m hoping he is just having some early season mechanical problems and there isn’t an injury involved.
Roby had an outstanding start at AA. Very efficient with 43 pitches in 4 innings with 30 strikes. When McGreevy gets the call up to MLB at the end of April / early May (you heard it here first), then I expect Roby to go to AAA to take that rotation spot.
April 7, 2025 at 6:58 am #278876The #STLCards system was 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach OF Won-Bin Cho, was 2-for-4, including a HR, three RBI, two runs and a steal. Other standouts include Max Racjic, Angel Cuenca, Zack Showalter and Joshua Baez. https://t.co/KXRIWSIkhK pic.twitter.com/RRyDwF5gRr

April 7, 2025 at 7:52 pm #278958April 8, 2025 at 2:06 pm #279009Today’s Minor League Starters:
MEM (5-2): RHP Ian Bedell (0-0, 27.00) at Nashville (MIL)
SGF (2-1): LHP Pete Hansen (AA debut) at Amarillo (ARI)
PEO (0-3): RHP Hancel Rincon (2025 debut) at South Bend (CHC)
PB (2-1): RHP Nelfy Ynfante (2025 debut) at Bradenton (PIT)
April 8, 2025 at 8:34 pm #279042I’m surprised Sparks didn’t get the start. Although they did pitch him 3 1/3rd innings so maybe going with a 6 man rotation with one of them each week being a piggy back starter.
April 8, 2025 at 8:36 pm #279043Am I the only one that feels there are just so few interesting hitting prospects in the org? No one worth checking in on at A+ on the hitting side and only 2 or 3 interesting hitters at other levels.
April 8, 2025 at 8:47 pm #279045We went with the list of starters the Palm Beach team gave me. Obviously, that wasn’t totally accurate. Sorry about that.
In tomorrow’s podcast we just taped, Kyle makes a case for two hitters – Cade McGee and Josh Kross – as potential difference makers.
April 8, 2025 at 8:58 pm #279047No not putting any blame on you. I was just surprised that Sparks wasn’t a member of the rotation. I like him and think he has more upside than a typical player picked where he was
April 9, 2025 at 6:17 am #279054The #STLCards system was 2-2 on Tuesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, CF Chase Davis, was 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Jeremy Rivas, Dakota Harris and Yordalin Pena. https://t.co/2qxaHrk9E5 pic.twitter.com/i9i5DaAytu

stlcard25ParticipantInterestingly, all three of the Springfield homers were opposite field shots. Good to see the power plays for Davis. I’d almost written him off earlier last year before the switch flipped.
