Michael Javier “Corky” Cordero. Refreshing to see this 16 year old from the Queen City heating up at the dish. Though he’s barely old enough to drive, that hasn’t stopped this kid from starting to drive the baseball with a reckless sort of authority. Looking forward to a big finish to the season for Corky.

Mason Molina starting for Peoria. Already gave up a dinger. The other Baez is hitting 2nd.

All of a sudden, the Peoria team just got interesting to follow. First Ortiz, then all the trade acquisitions.

Yes, I mentioned the same thing on the podcast. That and the new draft picks at Palm Beach.

Bonus for those who don’t see Memphis games on MiLB.TV every day…

IMO, it is a good strategy to sell the future when the present is not so bright. And on a day off for St. Louis, why not check out the Redbirds!

Marquee does this with the Cubs minor league teams. Don’t see any reason why the Cardinals or FanDuel shouldn’t show these games on off days or a night game after a day. Don’t know the contractual obli between milb and fanduel-Cards ect…

If you are the Cardinals I guess you don’t want the fans to get a look at your #1 prospect on an off day when his team is being televised locally.

Really weird to have Wetherholt sit after featuring him in their ad for the free view of tonight’s game.

Mathews looking solid tonight. He’s not lighting up the gun, but he is filling up the zone and keeping the hitters off balance. 4 scoreless with 4 Ks. His last hit allowed was a weak infield single.

The mighty Quinn is through 6 with no runs, no walks, 6 Ks on 56 pitches. Looks like he’s sitting 91-92 mph for the most part.

That’s been him lately. He touches just over 93 on occasion. But mostly 91-92. His changeup has come back in force lately. He does a great job mixing pitches and location. His command is still a little shaky. If he can get back to even a consistent 93-94, I think he can be successful at the next level. Maybe next season.

It’s not that his fastball has to improve, but that sure makes him better. I personally don’t want to see him pitching 96 again. That may have caused the injury.

Quinn is through 7 on 86 pitches (60 strikes)…2 singles, 0 walks, 9 Ks and no runs. A great start for Mathews. Unfortunately, his counterpart, former top prospect Forrest Whitley, matched his 0s through 6 innings. It’s knotted at 0 in the 7th.

We have 0 runs over 16 innings across our minor league teams tonight ( not counting the shellacking our DSL team put on the Yankees this morning). That’s zero runs on 5 hits across 16 innings. Somewhere I can hear Rats saying something in my ear . . .

I’m going to bet the majority of our fanbase doesn’t care. I don’t think the major league club has any say in if JJ played tonight or not nor would they tell the Manager to play him on these nights when we got nothing going on. Lol

I think everybody who tuned in to that broadcast was disappointed Wetherholt didn’t play.

We forget that a guy doesn’t have to throw 100 to be a good pitcher.

Hopefully Mathews won’t try to do more than he needs to do to get AAA hitters out. He will get his chance whatever the gun says, and he can assess what he needs to do then.

I was hopeful that the influx of talent to Peoria might help them improve down the stretch. It still seems that something is wrong with the coaching staff there. I’m basically throwing out Peoria results or tempering them in my top 50 for the fall.

    Players play…

With all the cross-system instructors in and out (increased for 2025), plus video, analytics, training, strength and conditioning all coordinated at the organization level, I question if a few rogue team coaches could exist. And even if they did, how they could mess up an entire roster of 28-30 players plus the guys who were promoted upward and their replacements?

It may be that the step up from the FCL to the Midwest League is tougher for some players than we may have expected.

P.S. None of the 2025 draft picks have been assigned to Peoria and the players acquired at the deadline haven’t played more than a week as Chiefs yet.

P.S.2. On my Top 50, the Chiefs don’t have a lot of star power. The highest ranked Chief is Lin at no. 15 and he had been on the IL for weeks. Honeyman at 17 has been fine but Kross at 19 has struggled at High-A.
