Is MLB TV and MLB Network two different things?

Very much so. MLB Network is a channel that is as part of the package on many cable, satellite and streaming systems. They have a lot of baseball related series and also show some games in season but honor the local blackouts. So you’d never see a Cardinals game on it if you live in Bally Sports Midwest territory.

MLB TV is a stand alone subscription streaming service that allows people to view all MLB games that are out of their market. So again if you live in StL, you can’t see Cardinals games that way. But if you are BikeMike in Denver, for example, you can see every BSM Cardinals game live or on demand. MLB TV also streams a lot of minor league games without blackouts. MLB Network is not included in MLB TV. MLB TV costs about $150 per year.

Generally speaking, there are no MLB TV blackouts in spring training as they want people to try it and subscribe.

For those who want to attend as many games as possible at the lowest cost.

    From the Cardinals:

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the Budweiser Ballpark Pass is on sale now for the 2024 season. The popular ticket subscription service gives fans the opportunity to attend as many Cardinals home games as they want for a monthly fee of $39.99.

On each game date, Budweiser Ballpark Pass subscribers will receive a Standing Room ticket delivered digitally to their smartphone through the MLB Ballpark app. With a Standing Room ticket, fans can enjoy the game, pregame activities and ballpark atmosphere from various social gathering spots inside Busch Stadium, including the Budweiser Terrace.

Fans entering Busch Stadium with the digital Standing Room ticket are eligible to receive promotional giveaway items at the gate for each game (provided they are eligible based on that giveaway’s posted age and quantity restrictions).

The Budweiser Ballpark Pass will automatically renew each month for customers who purchase the pass. Opening Day (Thursday, April 4) is excluded from the 2024 Budweiser Ballpark Pass.

For more information about the ticket subscription service, or to make a purchase, visit cardinals.com/pass.

We need more of Alexa Datt.

And to be quite honest, less of Edmonds and more of Hrabosky.

I am glad to see Tom Pagnozzi active with the organization again. A fun fact is that Tom lives just a few miles from me and is a next door neighbor with one of my work colleagues. Pags is a classy guy.

152 games on Bally, leaving 10 on the ESPNs, Apple TVs and MLB Network channels. That’s not bad.

Dodgers have thrown Glasnow and Yamamoto vs Diego. They have 6 off days before hosting us for a 4 game series.

They have 3 exhibition games vs the LAA in those 6 off days. Seems likely they throw their SP3-SP5, and let the rotation roll over.

Tomorrow is the first of those three exhibition games, to see who they start.

A workmate lives downtown, walking distance to Busch. He has the $40 a month standing room season ticket. Says he’s been working his way down to really prime seats. Said he’s only been rousted once so far, but it does take some sneaking. If I was a youngster, it would be a fine use for my lawn mowing money.

Cheap tickets for the Cubs game on Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. Just a reminder that even the count of tickets sold does not take profitability into account.

I posted about this in a different thread but this potential doom loop is what Brian has alluded to in the past.

Poor performance leads to reduced fan interest which leads to reduced revenue which leads to budget cuts which can lead to further poor performance. It can be a death spiral if someone doesn’t figure something out.

That would have to be BDW2 figuring out those magic beans he’s been sold are just a handful of beans.

    They’re legumes. (Office reference)

Seriously though, I agree with gscottar. It’s possible the entire thing spins out of control unless the front office can turn it around quickly.

Their peak attendance was around 43,000 per game. They are now around 37,000 per game (if you can believe the numbers). That’s a 14% decline off peak.

Probably needs to decline another 3,000 per game for them to realize their model is broken.

It will take a while for season ticket sales to drop off substantially. But a lot of those tickets will go unused. The reported attendance might be 34 000 but there are half that actually there.

Just curious as to why the Cardinals game with the Red Sox on May 19th is a 12:05 start. MLB does not have an agreement in m place as of now with someone to carry those early Sunday games. Are we now catering to the East Coast crowds?

Also I noticed the Cubs-Cards game Sunday the 16th at Wrigley is also a 12:05 and a couple other games are on early as well.

Sunday games in StL. have had a start time at around 1 pm CDT for as long as I can remember. Same with Wrigley field.

Maybe I have a wrong source, but I’m seeing first pitch for both games you mentioned as 1:05 pm CDT, booyah.

ESPN and Stl Cardinals have it as 12:05. Now ESPN could be mistaken but the Cardinals website should be accurate 100%. MLB also has it as a 12:05 start.
