Maybe a PoM candidate has to be an adult.
September 3, 2024 at 9:10 am #266448Springfield catcher Jimmy Crooks receives The Cardinal Nation’s nod as top position player in the #STLCards system last month. His stats are compared to 7 other finalists. Top 10 system prospects and last month’s winners’ results are also reviewed. (free) https://t.co/PmGbnP8vWk pic.twitter.com/P6OgaABlM5

September 5, 2024 at 7:24 am #266640For The Cardinal Nation's #stlcards August minors Pitcher of the Month, I chose fewest runs allowed over best ratios. Palm Beach RHS Chen-Wei Lin edged out LHS Quinn Mathews for the honor. See all the stats here. https://t.co/UeGeo2JEhu pic.twitter.com/fRaHwPLxuG

stlcard25ParticipantOn the hitting side, Crooks seems like the easy call. He’s hitting so well, and with solid defense, he’s possibly to probably the guy we are hoping takes over in the big leagues within a couple of years. Yet another nod to Matt Koperniak, all he does is hit.
On the pitching side, good call on “Wei-No”, who has has a really nice start to his stateside career. Mathews had a very nice month too, and it will be interesting to see if he gets his footing at Memphis before the season ends.
September 5, 2024 at 9:10 am #266644Crooks’s big problem is we know what is possible. His second biggest is nobody seems to know what they are looking at with catchers. How many have we gotten excited about? I am determined not to fall for it again. That’s not to say he won’t make it, just that there is no one whose judgement I consider trustworthy when it comes to catchers.
I agree he has been a hitting stand out.
No argument with Lin or Mathews.
September 5, 2024 at 11:52 am #266656I wonder if Bling is secretly advising the Cardinals. They bypassed Crooks and picked Bryan Torres instead. If they wanted to recognize Torres, he should have been in Memphis months ago.
September 5, 2024 at 12:14 pm #266661The Cardinals agree with us on the August Pitcher of the Month, Lin.
Bryan Torres and Chen-Wei Lin Named Cardinals Top August Minor Leaguers
September 5, 2024 at 12:45 pm #266663When is the last time the Cardinals named someone on the IL Player of the Month?
September 5, 2024 at 2:44 pm #266668I don’t know, but why should it matter if his numbers were best and he met the plate appearance minimum?
September 5, 2024 at 6:25 pm #266676Yeah, it’s about what you did from August 1 to 31, not where you are today.
The real issue would be if a guy was on the IL all month, but got the award. Your system would really be bad if that happened! 🙂
September 5, 2024 at 6:30 pm #266677It might matter to them is my point.
It seems unusual they would give it to an Indy guy over their highly touted #5 prospect unless the case was compelling, which it clearly isn’t since Brian came up with a different answer.
September 5, 2024 at 6:36 pm #266678That’s not to say he won’t make it, just that there is no one whose judgement I consider trustworthy when it comes to catchers.
Sure you can find at least one advisor who you can trust.
