St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporting that Hence has been placed on 7-day IL, and that he may throw a side session this week.

McKeithan is as invisible as a guy can get. For some time now I have had a note about him since he is the kind of hitter the Cardinals have no idea what to do with, and no interest either. For most of the time, his OBP has exceeded his SLG. My take, supported by stuff Donovan said when his OBP (.394) exceeded his SLG (.379) in 2022, is that the org sees that as something needing to be “fixed”, rather than evidencing a skill set to be developed and exploited. Fix the launch angle is to hitting what add a few ticks is to pitching. The paint by numbers equivalent in player development. Define an optimum, and direct everyone toward it.
I don’t know anything about him as a catcher, but the question I would ask is can he throw out runners enough to keep a lid on a running game. If not, then he needs a different position. See Herrera, don’t keep making the same player development mistakes, even if it means putting the wrong color in the wrong space.
Mckeithan doesn’t play a lot. He’s only thrown out 15% of base stealers in his minor league career. Herrera is more like 20% in the minors if you take away his fabulous time in the DSL where he was around 50%.
Just for comparison, Crooks is around 30% and Pages is around 45%.
Herrera and McKeithan are poor at throwing runners out, Crooks is average, and Pages and Contreras are very good. Molina lands in the all time great category.
Contreras was around 40% in his minor league days.

I looked up Bernal’s numbers, and this year he is throwing out 28%, up from low 20s previously.
I have to think that is marginal, at best. Yes he will improve, but so will the base runners he faces, so we will have to see if he can pick it up. It seems a key point for a catcher, as the Cardinals were reminded of when they had to spend $85 Million rather than turn it over to Herrera.
Honeyman has been playing well so far, although he is obviously too old for Rookie ball. He is only playing DH, so imagine they are treating it like a mini rehab for him and he will will in A ball when fully healthy
Hence will be making his next start as it was just cramping. That is great to hear he isn’t hurt.

Bedell has been really good lately. Today he’s sitting at 11 strikeouts through 5. 1 run on 2 hits. It’s been great seeing him turn around his rough start to the year. Meanwhile, Mautz had another rough outing today. Brycen and Pete Hansen are both dropping out of the future rotation possibilities.

The key for Roby is going to be health. Was there ever an official diagnosis of his latest injury or a timeline for his return?

Could be. I have seen very little written about it since it happened.
