Alec Willis got the 1 inning save tonight for Palm Beach. Maybe he’s done starting. Or maybe they’re just easing him back since he’s barely pitched for a couple seasons.
Some other notes that you may find interesting:
Rajcic got destroyed tonight after a good first outing. Tonight was rough. McGreevey also really struggled tonight. And lastly on the down side, Baker is off to a slow start at AAA. A few homers, but that’s about it.
On the upside, Prieto and Fermin have been hitting extremely well. I thought I’d never write Fermin and hitting well in the same sentence. Springfield is still undefeated (although tonight’s game is close as I’m writing this) and basically everyone is hitting well. Nick Robertson, who we got for O’Neill finally seems to have found his touch and gotten his pitches working, which is good because he’s on the 40-man roster. And finally, Palm Beach’s pitching has been pretty amazing thus far.
I did notice that McGreevy logged 5 Ks in 5.1 IP. That at least is a positive. His K/9 had been something like 4.5 I think so far. He walked 4 though and he’s giving up a lot of hits. Building on last season’s kind of similar results, its concerning.

Frankly I would have rather had Fermin on the STL roster than Crawford. It would have saved BDW a million bucks too.

Showalter had 2ip, 0R, 1H and 2K in relief last night. 0.00 ERA on the season and over a K per nine(barely).
Are they just being safe with him or is a RP his long term spot? I was under the impression he was the potential prize of the Flaherty deal is why I’m curious.
He’s very young. I’m pretty sure they are just being safe with his arm. But I haven’t heard for certain.
It’s great to see starters doing better. Hence, Graceffo, Bedell, Cornwall among others doing well. Now if only Roby can join the fun tonight. And what a start to the season by Springfield.
I would guess Hence might get a promotion in a few months if he can keep it up. But there is much starting pitching competition among the 20 plus starting pitchers in the minors.

The recent Graceffo and Robberse starts are certainly encouraging. Add Hence, Kloffenstein, Roby, etc. to the mix and maybe there’s some young help on the way for the Cardinals starting pitcher staff. At least, in the future.
let’s certainly hope help isn’t on the way, at least, in the past. Not sure the rotation needs any help at the moment. That would be needed in the lineup
I’m not rightly sure where the post is, these Minor League threads change every week.
So forgive me for not remembering the poster, but Augusto Calderon was brought up on one of these threads, and I wanted to agree and and add to said discussion.
He’s abysmal and old for his competition. He can’t get anyone out. And together with Randel Clemente they account for nearly 30.00 ERA in the Florida State League. Those ties need to be cut. I don’t see any upside with Calderon…. not entirely sure about Clemente, but he shouldn’t see another game in the FSL until a lengthy visit to the Complex/EST (is it still called “EST?”)
Those two took a 5 run lead and turned it into a 5 run deficit in the 7th and 8th inning last night. Adding to there legendary exploits of 2024 ~ there’s only a few, but nothing good.
The Cardinals definitely have some intriguing pitching prospects on the horizon which may have an impact in STL in the next year or two but do we have any position players to get excited about? Saggesse? Cho?
Any reports on Bryan Torres. He was injured last night on a CF defensive play in the SPR v. Amarillo game.

Pallante to AAA. Will they stretch him out to see how he works as a starter? I’d assumed Thompson would be sent to AAA to be 6th starter, but Pallante would be an intriguing choice.

Memphis Hitting: .734 OPS (14 out of 20, ranging from .879 to .689).
Memphis Pitching: 4.69 ERA (9 out of 20, range from 3.88 to 6.51).
Springfield Hitting: .800 OPS (1 out of 10, ranging from .800 to .586).
Springfield Pitching: 4.17 ERA (6 out of 10, ranging from 2.93 to 6.62 ).
Peoria Hitting: .656 OPS (12 out of 12, ranging from .794 to .656).
Peoria Pitching: 3.89 ERA (5 out of 12, ranging from 2.29 to 6.14).
Palm Beach Hitting: .710 OPS (3 out of 10, ranging from .733 to .585).
Palm Beach Pitching: 3.05 ERA (2 out of 10, ranging from 3.04 to 5.61).
As of this moment, our minor league teams are 7 games over .500 with the Palm Beach victory today. Palm Beach and Springfield have been great. Memphis has been so-so. And Peoria has struggled – especially with offense.
