All-Star uniforms: Ick!
July 12, 2024 at 2:57 pm #260082Skenes has been names the starting pitcher for the NL. Not bad for a rookie.
July 12, 2024 at 6:19 pm #260099Great little extra honor for Skenes. Back in the day the all-star starter would go three innings. I am sure Skenes will go one-and-done, as will most every pitcher that makes an appearance.
July 15, 2024 at 5:12 pm #260562Looks like Helsley will be inactive for the game, which should make many Cardinals fans happy. On the other hand, there is less of a reason to watch.
He is not injured, he says. Just wants to rest up for 2H.
July 15, 2024 at 5:39 pm #260565If that’s the case, they should have an option where we can substitute someone, like Winn or Contreras.
Wanting to rest up is understandable, but it smacks of the Garry Templeton “if I ain’t starting I ain’t departing” bit.
July 15, 2024 at 7:38 pm #260586The League substituted another reliever, Kyle Finnegan of the Nationals. Makes sense. Helsley will still be there to take his bows.
I hope the Tempy reference is a joke. No closer in his right mind would expect to start the All-Star Game.

July 17, 2024 at 5:10 am #260679While looking at the ASG box score this morning I was struck by the fact that not only did no Cardinal player appear, but as far as I can tell, no player developed in the Cardinals system appeared. I think Ozuna is the only player to ever play in the Cardinals organization who appeared.

It’s BicycleMike, Brian……..of course he was joshing. You gotta love his word “smacks” though. No Cardinal player active for an All-Star game. Has this occurred in any of our lifetimes? The Phillies had 7 players and us only 1. If that alone doesn’t motivate our boys to beat them but good the next time we play Philly, then they are terribly deficient in heart.
July 17, 2024 at 8:40 am #260692Outside of bonus pay I don’t think a lot of the players care all that much about the ASG.
They used to but to me it seems like they don’t as much.
Because it’s not played like a real game anymore I haven’t watched or cares about it since the early to mid 90s.

It “helps” that both Alcantara and Gallen are injured. Further, Adolis and Randy have returned to mediocrity. So has April darling Richie Palacios. (How on earth could they trade him for an old injured reliever?)
So maybe the trades aren’t as bad as we thought? 😉
July 17, 2024 at 2:26 pm #260716So Helsley isn't going to be active which means the Cardinals won't have an eligible player. It's not the first time.
In 2002 Matt Morris was the only selection but also was replaced on the roster. He was there (with a DK jersey) but no Cardinal was eligible.

Another take would be that any association with the Cardinals system is a kiss of death.
July 20, 2024 at 9:10 am #260927Bling,
Based on the last decade something is clearly rotten within the organization.
10 years is clearly long enough to dismiss ‘luck’ or ‘odd circumstances’.
