Not to worry 1TD, two of my flesh and blood were sitting right here and I heard it mentioned a couple times. I thought I raised them right.
About 10 years ago I happened to be in a corner imbibery (I think maybe the one that sat on Big Bend just south of the Greenwod viaduct in Maplewood, closed now I think). I probably had stopped in to borrow a cup of sugar for Lady Bling, and the game was on behind the bar, and one thing led to another. The point is, there was a Cardinals no hitter in progress and I saw a guy get knocked off a barstool for mentioning it.
Haha! Yeah, part of the fun of watching a no-no in progress is everyone knowing that mentioning the possibility of the no-no is an extremely serious no-no…It’s an offense that’s almost as serious as answering in the affirmative when you’re getting ready to go out for dinner and the Mrs. asks the question, “Honey, does this dress make me look fat?” Anyone who possesses a sliver of common sense and basic survival instincts knows to say, “NO-NO!”
On a more serious note, Montgomery obviously worked a nice turn and he’s begninnig to put together a nice season. He’s got his ERA down to 3.28 which puts him amongst the leading top 10 for NL ERA leaders while sitting at a little less than 100 IP’ed in 17 starts. That’s pretty darned good for a member of a rotation belonging to a team that’s been buried in last place all season long.
True 1TD, but I’m sure you know that now and then using common sense just doesn’t come to mind. A much younger man whom I know very well indeed was once asked “tell me the truth, will you remember my name in the morning?” to which he reportedly replied “the truth is I don’t remember it now”. That was not an example of the application of common sense.
