No sense in looking at more than one game at a time, the next game, for now.
We can start to hope again if we can move to 2nd place and within 3-4 of the division leader.
Five in a row would be the longest streak of consecutive W’s of the season. I’d trade that record setting 17 game winning streak of a couple of seasons ago for a 10 game streak right now…
I haven’t watched much Cardinals baseball lately. Watched the US Open Thursday, Friday,and Saturday. Drove 14 hours Sunday to start my vacation, got here just in time to watch the last hour or so of the US Open. Maybe I’ll continue to not watch as it seems maybe they are playing better without me watching.
But it’s raining this morning here in southwest Florida, so I’m sitting here watching a little MLB Network and I’ve said it before and and I’ll continue to say it, the Cardinals REALLY messed up letting Skip Schumaker get away. They just had an interview with him and I’m always so impressed with him and he said his first order of business when he got the Miami job was to get a staff he knew and he knew he could trust. Compare that to the turnover and whatever Oli has down there now and maybe that’s some reasoning for Miami “over achieving” and the Cardinals “under achieving”.Let’s take a gander at the early out-of-town scoreboard today:
Rockies and Reds are scoreless in the top of the 1st at Crosley Field.
Cubs and Pirates, no score in the 1st at Forbes Field.
Arizona and the Brewers are tied 0-0 in the 1st at County Stadium.
The Reds are going for their 11th straight win today. The Giants are going for their 10th straight win later tonight against the Padres at Seals Stadium.
Time to jump on the John Deere and mow just a little. Then get the push mower out and mow some high stuff. Then grab the old hoe and dig some weeds out of the landscaping. Then it will be lunch time. Din din today will be a couple of center cut rib chops in the air fryer, some baked beans, an ice cold/slushy Mt. Dew, and either some strawberries or some Prairie Farms Vanilla Bean ice cream. Or both. Then a 7×50 Palma Real cigar to finish out the Reds game with Whitey Herdog.
I don’t get hitting Nootbaar at three. If that is the best we can do, then no wonder we are in last place. Show me a great team and they likely have a big time number three hitter.
I like Noot and see some good potential there, but he is not a number three hitter. Now I will say, I never thought of Tommy Herr as a three hitter either, but it worked with that Jack rabbit team we had in ‘85. So I will concede that maybe this will evolve in a positive way.

Contreras 5th and Gorman 6th is probably more of a factor.
Trying to understand The Nootz in the 3 slot is not unlike trying to understand an owl flying backwards in the daytime while he’s hollering, “What? What? What?”
Updating the out-of-town scoreboard:
The Rockies lead the Reds 3-0 in the last of the 4th at Crosley Field. Three solo dingers by Colorado, including one from our old buddy Randy Grichuk.

Is a rainout possible..?As I have mentioned before Oli is obsessed with mixing up the RH and LH bats. That is the only reason Noot is hitting 3rd instead of 2nd, and it makes no sense.

Is a rainout possible..?I was wondering the same thing. Considering that the team is looking at a long flight to London I doubt they will want to stick around too long dealing with a weather delay.
Not sure I understand why Jordan Walker is not starting today with a current 13-game hitting streak? Some freak injury yesterday?
The Reds win their 11th in a row with a 5-3 final in CIN. Their SP’er, Gibaut, improved to 8-1. Not too shabby. I also noticed that India’s crossed HP 56 times this season. That’s a lot of runs scored and runs are important. I’ve been impressed by India since he emerged a couple of seasons ago and he reminds me a lot of little Eddie. He’s collected 12 SB’s this season and has been primarily placed in the order at lead-off. Bell seems to know what he’s doing. I guess a 12 year playing career that included 35 post-season games coupled with losing 100 games as the Reds manager last season has taught him how to use his limited resources in terms of players to forge a winning formula. At any rate, the Reds are red hot and I hope their fans turn out in droves to see them play.
In his last four games before today Arraez went 5 for 5, 1 for 4, 5 for 5 and 1 for 4 respectively. So, if you believe that patterns hold true, you would have fully expected him to have gone 5 for 5 in today’s game, but he only managed to go 2 for 5 today at the plate. Just shows how unpredictable baseball can be…Haha!
Sitting out with a “minor illness” ? !!! Kids now days. He should be in there unless they can’t stop the bleeding.

I don’t like back to back LH hitters with bad splits. I wouldn’t put Gorman and Burleson back to back. But Donovan and Nootbaar wouldn’t be bad back to back. If they tried to bring in a LH pitcher to face them its not a big deal as it would be bringing in a LHP to face Gorman and Burleson back to back.

My guess is it’s still some COVID B.S. with them traveling overseas after today he has to be “cleared” to travel over there, but they can’t come out and say that for fear up upsetting one side or the other.
