I feel better with a two-run lead.
June 17, 2023 at 5:51 pm #224786Hicks with a lead off HBP. Here we go again.
June 17, 2023 at 5:56 pm #224787Hey! Wainwright gets his 3rd win of the year!
June 17, 2023 at 5:56 pm #224788That was a fun game to watch. Not perfect but positive. Rah Cardinals!
June 17, 2023 at 6:01 pm #224789Needless to say……I WAS YELLING WHEN MARMOL BROUGHT HICKS IN! AND I WAS YELLING LOUDER WHEN HE HIT THE LEADOFF BATTER!!!
June 17, 2023 at 6:02 pm #224790Reds way ahead of the Astros in the 9th. 10-3 at the Astrodome.
The Brewers down the Pirates again 5-0 at County Stadium.
With the win today the Cards stay eight (8) games out of 1st.
Only eight games – that can disappear in two weeks.
June 17, 2023 at 6:05 pm #224792Its a winner! Thank goodness they didn’t pitch Galleagos in the 9th. Don’t think he does that well under pressure. Hicks was a bit wild but came through. No fancy stuff just went right at em. I like that in a closer. Looks like Edman needs to give the big money guys how to hit. Nado needs to dump his funk. Making way too much money for that. Could always take up drinking? Go Cardinals you looked like a team today. Think rbi-rbi-rbi- Ohmmm-Ohmmmm….

Talk about an incredibly bad take.
After today’s game:
Edman – .235/.291/.403/.694
Arrenado – .273/.321/.472/.793June 17, 2023 at 6:43 pm #224795Yeah, it’s a shame that Hicks often has trouble finding HP. If he didn’t come with that tendency he’d have a really good chance to be an effective 9th inning guy. Problem is you just can’t hand the baseball to someone who places baserunners aboard via the BB when you’re trying to protect a slim lead late in a game. He got the save today, but the HBP to the first hitter he faced placed the tying run in the batter’s box to give the Mets three chances to tie the game.
June 17, 2023 at 6:53 pm #224797Wooster…Nado’s bat will he up as soon as he performs a couple of the gyro-copter throws to 1B…Haha!
June 17, 2023 at 6:56 pm #224798Well at least we stopped the bleeding for one day.
I hate to say this but the only time this year we have looked like a decent team was the week that Contreras was DH only. I don’t know why but we played well that week.
June 17, 2023 at 7:08 pm #224799Maybe they are moving Hicks to the 9th to showcase him for a potential trade to a contender….I am all for that…hopefully he doesn’t blow up before they can get it done.
June 17, 2023 at 7:22 pm #224800Maybe you’re right, greyghost. During the game I drew a blank when trying to figure out who he was going to use for the 9th. Vogelbach was the last Met’s hitter in the 8th, so I though maybe he’d allow Gallegos to face the RH hitting Kahna who was due to lead-off the 9th and then hand the baseball to Cabrerra to face both LH hitting Guillorme and Nimmo. Hicks never entered my train of thought.

Yep Wooster, should be this way every time with Hicks. Also, when things go bad I don’t think it’s because he’s not trying to go right at ’em. His command is just plain bad. No mascot is safe when he’s out there!
June 17, 2023 at 8:11 pm #224803I could be wrong but I don’t think he has been the same pitcher since he had tommy John surgery, but the last few years they really wanted him to get more swing and misses and I think that approach has led to a lot of control issues as well.
June 17, 2023 at 11:36 pm #224817Somebody has to pitch the ninth.
