This Costello guy can’t be as good as he was in his big league debut. Hopefully we can get a few runs early and ride the momentum.

What is wrong with Goldschmidt? I wonder when he’s going to go on one of those two week tears where you can’t get him out? Bob Brenly always said that about him.

What’s wrong with Arraez, Rats? He only went 1 for 4 on Friday and didn’t have a solitary hit on Thursday…He’s down to .400 now. Skippy should probably rest him a game or two…

I wonder if we will see Gorman vs the lefty. And Baker.

Last time out Miles got hit around but kept things from getting out of hand. Still, 5 innings and a 41 game score is not what we need to keep this latest turnaround going. The pen really seems beat down.

I have noticed that Walker’s stance is somewhat less open. The front foot is pretty well in line with the back foot now, rather being off to the 3rd base side. It should help him keep his shoulder in dealing with the outside edge, but he did hit one of those off the end of the bat last night.

I still say just put a computer on one of those rolling stands, but a Cardinal cap on top of the monitor, and call it the manager.

Abandon all hope ye who post here…

    For 2023 is lost.

Remains only to sit and enjoy the occasional good game…

When summoned to the fore by the fickle gods of Cardinaldom.

The bad news out of sickbay that Nootbaar is not progressing is hard to swallow. He’s the guy that can make this team go…. and he puts the fans in the seats.

Well, these guys certainly know what to do when they get the bases loaded.

This is what bad defense does. Arenado basically makes an error in the second that comes back to cost us 3 runs in the 2nd. Then Walker goes for a sliding catch in the 3rd that he misjudges and it becomes a triple.

So now Mikolas gets charged with 5 earned runs over 3 innings. And really it could have easily been zero or one. And the Cards sit in a 5-0 hole.

This feels reactionary. But Walker is not ready for MLB until he has a full season of playing OF under his belt. The mistake to bring him up originally is now compounded because he’s on the 40 man and we needed an outfielder so he’s back. But I wish now that it was someone like Pinder who was put on the 40-man so we’d have a competent outfield behind us. This has to suck as a pitcher and it just gets everyone down.

Can anybody explain to me the attraction of bobbleheads? These announcers are going on at great length about some upcoming promotion for a bobblehead. Who would want one of the things, free or otherwise.

And Edman saves a run! So it can work both ways. Nice catch Tommy!

I have been saying for awhile that instead of obsessing over his groundball rate vs launch angle that maybe we should pay attention to his lack of defense.

GScottar – you know I 100% agree. I get that Walker can hit the ball really hard and that he can add offensively when he’s not grounding into double plays, but he needs to be able to at least play outfield defense competently. Now today, it’s Arenado’s lackadaisical play in the second that cost us the most. But Walker consistently struggles.

I have a problem with players that show lack of coordination, or just not smooth. And I know that’s not a end all be all with guys. There have been plenty of “natural athletes” that flame out. But even for as fast as O’Neill is, he’s very clunky. Walker looks to be a lot the same way. Watching Yepez and Burleson in LF is easier than watching Walker play the OF, and all you guys hate on them a lot. Donovan hasn’t been the best in the OF, but he looks like the most natural LF of anyone they’ve run out there often.

This team doesn’t come prepared to play. What did VerHagen have on his mind? He must think he’s sitting in a tavern…

Yeah, VerHagan cost himself and the Cards a run in that inning by not throwing to first.

It should be 2 or 3 to zero right now which would feel a whole lot better than 7-0. But if you get yourself in a hole, then it’s your job to get back out.

Cardinals won yesterday but the difference in these two teams is that the Reds played all 9 innings and continued to put forth a genuine effort to claw their way back into the ballgame last night. This team quits after 4 or 5 innings.

I was watching the Reds telecast. On the grounder back to Verhagen where he threw to 2nd for some unknown reason Chris Welsh, the Reds announcer said:

“The Cardinals look confused out there…..”

Didn’t take him long to figure it out.

2-run shot by Carlson who is having a nice game defensively and offensively. Followed by a double by Walker. Like I said, when you get in a hole . . .

Redbirds make a little noise. A run in the 7th and a 2-run Carlson homer in the 8th. 7-3 now.

    Too little, too late.

    Need a win tomorrow bad.
