Z: How many days off a week did Cal Ripkin get? Or days off per month? Or per year?

Goldy gets the punching bag treatment by our fans because of his salary, age, and high expectations. Arenado, on the other hand, has stats no better than Goldy’s despite making $10M/year more, but gets more of a free pass. I don’t understand that.

CiF, Goldy being worn down is among the plausible explanations for his late season bad results. I think it’s one of the approved plausible explanations, but not sure.

Citing playing in the WBC representing his country when many MLB players did the same as an example of lack of leadership is more weak sauce.

I have never picked up on a consistent difference in the way fans talk about Goldy versus Arenado. Seems like for the most part they are both well respected and liked.

Endurance-wise, both have played every day for years. One cannot say either guy is prone to long-term down time.

At this point in our season, I see no reason to run Goldy out there. Give him some down time and see what the big blond kid can do for a week. looking ahead, I want them both corner infielders in our lineup for 2024 and hope we have a team around them that can be competitive.

This should have been the kind of lineup fielded this entire month, IMO.

Masyn seeing that card with him ninth is probably saying ‘oh come on’.

Timely new article from Derrick Goold:

    No, this is really it:

Goldy is the big, strong, quiet type kind of like Lou Gehrig. Leadership comes in different ways. You don’t have to be a chatterbox to be a leader.

Every great team has a heart and soul player.

I could see Contreras settling into that role next season. I believe he is the only one with a ring and maybe the only one to play in a WS.

There will be the veteran core and Goldschmidt and Arenado are a big part of that but we dont know who the vocal guys are in the locker room – could be them, or not.

Pitching staff needs a guy to lead that group. I think Mikolas wants to be that guy but – how about having a winning record? He didn’t even do that last season did he?

This is going to be easily the most interesting and volatile off season the Cards have had in a long, long time.
