Hopefully Front Row Amy will be in attendance at one or more of these games. That might be a nice way to end this season’s road schedule.

At least FRA will give us something pleasant to watch, as the on-field exploits are pitiful. But the good news is, only one more week of looking at this nonsense.

Next year is guaranteed to be better. If we play good baseball, that is better. If we play bad baseball again, Marmol will be shown the door, which will be better. Plus it will be good to watch guys like Gorman, Walker and Winn as they should all be better each season for the next few. And one or more of those three could very well have a break out “Acuna” type of year in the latter half of the decade.

The bad news about next year is that we start out the season with four games in Los Angeles against the Dodgers and then three games in San Diego. We might very well start out 2-5. And perhaps even worse?

I agree BikeMike that with bad baseball Marmol will be shown the door. I’d say by Memorial Day next year if we are an under .500 team that will be it for Marmol.

And if the team is still struggling by the trade deadline next year I wouldn’t be surprised if BOTH Goldschmidt and Arenado are shipped off somewhere.

In my opinion, next year’s performance will depend almost exclusively on the pitching staff that Mo assembles and if they can stay reasonably healthy.

I really think the lineup will be solid and the defense improved.

I have my doubts as to whether the pitching staff can be overhauled in one off season but – we are going to find out.

True, ZTR, but that solid offense could be weakened by the trades needed to shore up the pitching. It is going to be a difficult balancing act, especially given the Cardinals’ relative frugality. They probably aren’t going to spend their way out of it.

Inside Milwaukee County stadium as we speak, Rat. And as of yet, no FRA (that’s “Front Row Amy” to the layman) in the building.

We better hold on to Palacios.

Making difficult look routine is not common, but it is with Winn.

    Pugs,
I see Front Row Amy showed up. She is fashionable late quite a bit. I guess she must want to make the grand entrance.

    DBacks lead the WhiteSox 9-4.
    Cubs lead the Braves 6-3.
    Reds down the Indiana 11-7.
Miami and the Mets rained out.
Padres and Giants just getting ready to start out at Candlestick.

Cardinals once again succumb to the narrative that lefties can’t hit lefties

Palacios has a 1.199 OPS against left-handed pitching.

But the Cardinals wonks think he can’t hit lefties and they need to put Yepez into the game to make an out.

It seems clear that Goldschmidt is mailing it in. .198 for September. Alternatively, he is over the hill and can’t last all season playing every day. Take your pick.

Mikolas joins Adam’s ‘I can pitch 7 strong once it doesn’t matter anymore’ club. Good for him. Is he done for the year now?

Our veteran leadership is amazing. We should be set next year.

Your negativism is as consistent as it is misplaced. Last year, in his MVP season, September was his worst month. Over his career, September has been his worst month. Maybe he is just worn down or slumping, not dogging it.

Maybe so. They must be trying to build up his stamina.

It is far easier to complain and assume the worst than to actually look into why it might be.

Over Goldschmidt’s entire career, he has one bad month pretty much every year. Some say he is toast, only for him to heat up again so it is soon forgotten… until the next time it happens…

To turn that into him supposedly providing poor veteran leadership is an embarrassingly bad take.

As to veteran leadership, Goldy bowed out of ST and is finishing on a similar note. But it is an example, not the only one. We all blame something or things for this debacle. I lay some of the blame on a vacancy of veteran leadership and Goldy is a veteran. But let’s bubble wrap the bronze busts so no blame can stick.

So, would more off days throughout the season help Goldschmidt avoid a September swoon?

We probably have (at least for now) enough bats to give him extra days off.

If he gets 1 day off a week maybe give him 3 days off every two weeks? Of course it may not be just playing the games it could be the travel grind during the long MLB season too. Don’t know.

I think rotating him into the DH slot was supposed to help. Him and NA both. Worked like a charm. He’s still out there though, I’ll give him that.

I was thinking just totally off days as in try not to even use him as a PH…

I’d bet they have discussed this internally ad nauseum and have tried multiple different things.

My question would be is it primarily mental fatigue, physical fatigue, or both?

Good to see Mikolas finish with a strong start, assuming he won’t pitch again this year. He has not been very good for awhile now, so a nice change.

Not sure Goldy should even be playing at this point. Why not start Baker the remaining games and let Goldy DH maybe every other game?
