With a homerun and a walk today, Luken Baker gets his OPS above .600!

Lopez strikes out on three pitches nowhere near the plate…

One of those years where former Cardinals are usually better than current members.

Walker has a great outfield arm. Needs to learn the best routes to the ball and how to judge trajectory better. He can learn that, just a matter of living through the growing pains if they leave him out there. With that arm he can eventually be a plus defender, but it might take another season and a half or so of consistent reps.

Early in the season, when the team is trying to compete, he should be relegated to DH unless he shows vast improvement.

Early this season when we were trying to compete, the Cards brass seemed to think Walker’s D was good enough. They would have know what to expect. No reason to expect different next year.

Well, way back in 2016, the Cardinals were coming off a few seasons where they had missed the playoffs in consecutive years.

Mozeliak proudly proclaimed the Cardinals would return to their formula that worked – pitching and defense.

Of course, then they would proceed to run Jose Martinez out into the outfield.

But maybe this disastrous of a season, where so many players can’t play a lick of defense, will pound it into their heads.

But they also signed Mike Leake. Probably for innings depth.

2016 was the first of three consecutive seasons that the Cardinals missed the playoffs.

In 2019 they made it to the NLCS.

2020 – 2022 they made the playoffs but I think they only won a single game?

2023 missed playoffs and have a losing record.

So the last 8 years we’ve made the playoffs 50% of the time and only once (2019) advanced.

    Pretty telling.
