SS Masyn Winn RSeptember 19, 2023 at 5:41 pm #234166I think everybody is interested to see what Rom does tonight, after that game he pitched against the Orioles. Disregard his first major league start (8 runs allowed in 3.2 innings) because he was apparently told to throw nothing but fastballs. Then, his ERA goes down to 4.61 which isn’t too bad for a 23 year-old, just out of the crib, rookie.
September 19, 2023 at 6:17 pm #234167If Rom wants to be up in the laundry list lefty pecking order he will have to be consistent. That puts him in kind of a bad position. He doesn’t really have time this year to establish that he’s consitent, but he has plenty of time to establish that he’s not.

jj-cf-stlParticipantRom has shown he has the pitches to go on a K streak
September 19, 2023 at 7:13 pm #234169Sounded like some good aggressive offense in the first.
September 19, 2023 at 7:24 pm #234170Winn needs to be more aggressive in hitter’s counts. I see him take a lot on 2-0 and 3-1. He will learn, at least if he is being properly coached. But those 2-0 and 3-1 pitches are where you can boost your numbers. He tends to watch them cross the middle of the plate too often.
You can tell his confidence is not there. But that is not unusual for a 21 year old kid just scratching the surface of his career.
September 19, 2023 at 7:51 pm #234174Rom gives up three straight doubles to start the 4th
September 19, 2023 at 8:22 pm #2341775-2 Brewers in the top of the 5th.
Woodford on pitching.
Board sure is dead nowadays.
The Mets tied Miami 3-3 in the 9th on a two out, two run double by Nimmo. Ouch for Miami.
September 19, 2023 at 8:30 pm #234179Rom was hitting the corners better in Baltimore. Also, that sidearm delivery might be better for relief. It takes awhile for the hitters to get used to it.
September 19, 2023 at 8:34 pm #234180Palacios just homers again. It’s a 5-3 Milwaukee lead.
Miami plates a run in the last of the 9th and wins over the Mets 4-3.
Minnesota pounding on the Reds. 6-0 in the 7th now.
Cubs and Pirates were in a rain delay at Wrigley.
September 19, 2023 at 8:34 pm #234181Palacios keeps making an impression.
September 19, 2023 at 8:36 pm #234183…but he does need to throw some singles and doubles in between the long ones now and then.
September 19, 2023 at 8:46 pm #234184Palacios now has 5 homeruns in 60 PAs
September 19, 2023 at 8:55 pm #234185A three inning start, we’re regressing.
September 19, 2023 at 9:57 pm #234190Cards lose 7-3 and their elimination from playoff contention is now ironclad.
In the ninth inning, Chip Caray called Burleson’s season “excellent”. Wondering what I missed, I checked the stats. His 2023 slash stats are almost identical to Edman’s.
B: .242/.298/.385/.684 OPS+ 86
E: .241/.301/.394/.695 OPS+ 89September 19, 2023 at 10:45 pm #234191I bet Chip reads Mo’s memos. Burleson’s excellent season goes hand-in-hand with Oli’s amazing managing. Maybe Chip just wants to be on the safe side and not get Kevin Brown’ed. Who knows, but you’re right, it’s a dumb thing to say about a guy who wasn’t even replacement level for the season.
September 20, 2023 at 12:38 am #234192Fora $50 ticket, I’m sure seeing Verhagen and Lawrence was worth at least that. If only Barnes had pitched then I felt like it was money well spent.
September 20, 2023 at 2:21 am #234195Edman really had a down year. But he wasn’t alone.

September 20, 2023 at 7:29 am #234201Meh – I expect our announcers to be homers, lol.
September 20, 2023 at 11:05 am #234217Chip is making sure he doesn’t get Shilt’d. No philosophical differences here.
And yes Palacios deserves 4th OF consideration for 2024.
