LHP Drew Rom (0-2, 8.00) vs. TBA
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
(and Bally Sports South/Southwest)September 2, 2023 at 12:09 am #232954Kolten Wong made his debut with the Dodgers last night. In his first atbat he slammed a long dong to right, a 3-run dinger. That cut the Braves lead to 6-3. LA still lost though.
September 2, 2023 at 10:16 am #232969We can only hope for the occasional nice defensive play or the always exciting home run. By the way, am I the only one who detests the expression “goes yard?” Ick!
September 2, 2023 at 12:13 pm #232983Rom’s history in AAA reminds me of Liberatore’s. He first moved up to AAA in August of last year, and from then until we called him up he was more or less a .500 pitcher who allowed too much traffic. Rom does seem to have a bit more swing and miss, but neither of them displayed and ability to dominate AAA hitters before being called up. Rom had a couple good AAA starts for us, just an Liberatore can look great sometimes. But I don’t think a guy who fails to dominate AAA hitters can be expected to do much in MLB.
September 2, 2023 at 12:22 pm #232984I guess Rom has two option years left and Liberatore has one, I think. So after next year, Liberatore willhave to be able to stick, and Rom will be a year behind on that path. As to Liberatore, I don’t see it happening. He’s just not progressing. Not anything that lasts, a least. But its not like AAA is stoked, so I’m sur he gets another year. Hopefully, Rom can be a depth guy at Memphis all next year and we can see if he develops, or if its more of the same all year.

PostsThe sun was in his eyes initially. He still nearly made a sliding catch in foul territory. I didn’t see it as a bad play at all.
September 2, 2023 at 6:32 pm #233017It was a tough play and if completed for an out would have made the highlight reel, Bling. Long way to go, sun in RF, and he was sliding to avoid the wall in foul territory. No oven mitt present on that attempt…Haha!
September 2, 2023 at 6:40 pm #233018O’Neill dong.
September 2, 2023 at 6:40 pm #233019Winn sure does have quite a few trinkets hung around his neck. These aren’t the obligatory sparkling gold variety that you normally see. Winn’s trinkets look like the type that my 6 month old baby granddaughter might wear. She sure is an adorable little thing…Assorted brightly colored beads with a slant towards something designed by Fisher-Price. They’re certainly cute, but in my view they’d look better in a play pen than at the SS position on the IF…

KeepComingBackParticipantThey looked good on that DP.
September 2, 2023 at 7:01 pm #233021This my first look at Rom and the impression is that he really looks like he’s aiming almost every pitch. I’ve yet to see him cut it loose. Almost looks like a guy in a tavern trying to thread the needle on a dart board.

KeepComingBackParticipantIs this the best defensive infield in the majors the Cardinals have out there?
September 2, 2023 at 7:52 pm #233023The pitching went downhill fast.
September 2, 2023 at 8:01 pm #233024I still don’t understand why these Saturday home uniforms read St. Louis on the front of the jerseys instead of Cardinals. I was always under the impression that a road uniform told what city that team was from. Seems more than a little bassackwards to me. Lots of things are like that about the Cardinals as of late.
September 2, 2023 at 8:22 pm #233025Walker with the go ahead 2 run tater. He lifted that baseball for quite a distance to CF. Every time I see one land in that spot I’m reminded of good times.
September 2, 2023 at 8:31 pm #233026Reds just beat the Cubs 2-1 with two runs in the last of the 9th. Cubs got hosed. Bader stole 3rd but when he got up he was off the bag and he got tagged. It was clearly obvious! But the umps ruled him safe on the challenge.
It was as obvious as could be to me.

ParticipantHaving Rom and Barnes and Lawrence and Suarez up and not Woodford is simply stupidity . This FO and Mgr have to rank among the worst in history..!!
September 2, 2023 at 8:49 pm #233030I was getting ready to type, “Man, I thought VerHagen was terrible, but he has the best ERA of any of the pitchers we used tonight.”
Then, he gave up a home run and no longer has the best ERA.
September 2, 2023 at 8:49 pm #233031Here comes Dutchy to close it out.
September 2, 2023 at 8:49 pm #233032I think we got the wrong Palacios.
A 2-run dong and the Pirates take the lead 7-6 in the 9th. It came off Verhagen.
September 2, 2023 at 8:50 pm #233033Whoa!…Nailed him to put the tying run aboard with 1 out.
September 2, 2023 at 8:52 pm #233034Well, it doesn’t look like Dutchy’s going to be too reliable as a 9th inning guy.
September 2, 2023 at 8:53 pm #233035Suarez doesn’t look like a guy named Suarez…
