Back-to-back gems for Libby? Highly doubtful, but stranger things have certainly occured. There’s going to be some runs scored tonight. If I were setting the over/under of total runs scored in this particular game, I would put it at an astonishingly high 15. And I would still bet the over. I’d be shocked if at least 17 runs weren’t put up on the board tonight. Go Cards!

Hard to say Pugs. Libby was really good last time out. We have been scoring some runs here lately though.Lots of runs is fun to watch!

Liby is “only 23”. Last year he was only 22. Next year he will be only 24. He is coming up on 500 pro IP. That’s about when Hudson started having arm trouble. It seems like with pitchers, waiting for it is a losing proposition.

Mo talks tough now, but if guys like Liby, Hudson, maybe Thompson, finish strong, he will be teetering on the edge of talking himself into it again. I’m completely sure about that. In a couple months and into the winter look for a cleverly nuanced shift in the narrative.

I’m liking knizner more and more.

I vote for him to be our regular starting catcher.

That is, if anybody should ever ask me for my vote.

Do what you will with Contreras.

Knizner cannot contain the running game. We would have to retain Contreras to play against teams that run, which I think will be more and more of them.

And you believe Contreras is a better defensive catcher in Knizner?

Knizner is better defensively, but teams can run on him, which is not going to be acceptable. It’s a flaw in his game that means he can’t be an everyday catcher. Inconvenient but true.

Perhaps you’re right. But I have a feeling Contreras will be controlling the running game from the DH slot next year, if he’s still around at all.

It would be helpful to let Herrera catch the rest of the season and see what he looks like back there vs MLB opponents. But why do something that makes sense I guess.

The advantage that Lavatory has in this game is that he’s facing the Oakland A’s. He’s not pitching against the Braves or Dodgers. He’s got a chance at two good outings in a row now.

I’ve said before that, to me, Knizner is looking like a MLB caliber catcher now that he’s out of Yadi’s shadow.. He’s playing with confidence, and he’s hitting better than he ever has at the major league level. His Caught Stealing rate is only 8% this year. But that looks like an outlier because in 2022 his CS was 25% and in 2021 his CS rate was 23%. That CS rate is not too far off from where Contreras has been. And since it appears that Knizner has improved in other areas of catching, he might just improve that CS rate as well. I think Knizner is our everyday catcher until somebody shows up and proves that he is clearly more gifted than Knizner. That said, this has been a transition year for Contreras, so we might not have seen the best of him yet. It will be interesting to see what he looks like next year if the Cardinals don’t trade him.

‘Lavatory’? Geez, Rat. I know Libby’s been disappointing most of the year. But, as one poster pointed out, he sure looked promising during spring training, and he was really good until about the middle of May. Regardless of it being the A’s that he’s pitching against this evening, if he wins he deserves some sort of validation…. maybe skip the jubilation. But if he wins, it’s a win for everybody.

I hope Matthew has a good start. I do not understand people that are supposed to be supporters of the Cardinals trashing our players. I like our players way better than I do some posters.

I like it when other teams hate us. Not when a trade looks bad. I liked the Lib trade when they made it and I like it now. I’m tired of the constant razzing we’ve taken over it. I’m on pins and needles. Can’t wait to see if he’s really turned a corner. His interviews after the last start were really encouraging.

Well, Libby looked real good vs the Rays, a postseason bound team.

Knizner (109 ops+) caught him that game. I’m hoping he catches tonight too.

Liby would have probably done better almost anywhere else besides STL. I say that because I think beaming him up to AAA from A ball really set him back, and he has never realy gotten his feet back under him. We did it because even then it was obvious we had nothing much in AAA that would ever help in STL. Guys like Thompson and Pallente have been done a similar disservice. Desperation moves like that are nothing but Hail Marys that seldom work. Years later the system is still just as broken. Adding some talent at the deadline and this winter just kicks the can down the road.

Alright!…We get some Manny Motter action at both 2B and in the box! I’m looking forward to seeing him take take his rips and patrol the right side of the IF.

I only expect 4 of those 9 guys to be starters next year. Possibly be the only 4 guys still on the team.

Brick hands Walker with a 3 base error.

He;s probably wondering why it isn’t a triple.
