I think I asked this his last game, but is Monty bigger this year? I don’t remember him looking quite the same size last year. You wouldn’t won’t a collision with him. I think that’s why Arenado backed off and let Monty catch the popup last inning.

Monty goes a full 7 on 100 pitches. Good job keeping Bernie off the slide.

Oli wheels out Thompson in the 8th. He’s going for the kill.

Obviously the desire for a strong arm is the primary reason the RF position is normally given to a more talented defensive player than is LF, but I’d guess another factor plays into the equation. There are vastly more hitters that stand in from the right side than do from the left, so I’d also have to guess that the RF’er is subjected to more plays involving the baseball hit to the opposite field with a tendency to take on a slicing action which is always a bit difficult to judge. In any event, I want my RF’er to be entirely solid with the glove and never to be fitted with the proverbial oven mitt…

Thompson walked Contreras to load the bases. That probably would’ve done it for me, but Oli stuck with him and it worked. Thompson struck out Voit to end the 8th.

    7 IP’ed, 0 ER’s on 3 hits, 9 K’s, 2 BB’s. That’ll carry the mail anywhere in the world…

If Tony Gwynn would have hit from the right side and Ryne Sandberg were a SS, that scorcher hit by Nado would have looked identical to a play I once saw in Game 5 of the 1984 NLCS…Ate him up.

Uh-oh, its Verhagen. I know he’s done OK, but its Verhagen.

Just tuned in, been out with grandson but nice to see Monty pitch well and we get some runs. Nice to get off that mini losing streak. Get the series winning game tomorrow and things will be right again.

I know with verhagen you never know but he’s looked good the two times I’ve seen him pitch. Hopefully he keeps it up and stays healthy.

That was his nickname at Carolina.

I’ll be darned. I just looked him up on BR and they have it noted as a nickname, but I’d never noticed it when looking him up in the past. I think I like that better than Monty.

I was never one of the members of the realease VerHagen gang, but I certainly acknowledge that I was not only unimpressed by his earlier career numbers, but also his performance as a Cardinal and stated that my view wouldn’t change unless he showed me a legitimate reason that I should do so. Well, so far he has…In the form of 0 ER’s allowed in 4 appearances. It’d be nice to have a veteran RH’ed arm in the BP who can consistently record outs. Hope he keeps up the nice work.

Verhagen has been impressive this year. That is an unexpected surprise that will hopefully continue.

I think I saw where Waino throws a pen tomorrow.?? Maybe have the timing wrong, but he is progressing. Maybe later next week he could start a rehab assignment.?? Noot does BP Monday, and then a decision on his return. Could be next week. Its hard to tell from box scores, and I haven’t heard any reports, but DeJong isn’t handling low pitching well, or at all really. But it doesn’t seem like he is injured any more, so I assume he will be back before too long. So all that means some roster moves coming up. Yepez, Motter probably, and a pitcher.

That was a very focused urgent effort tonight. Montgomery was dialed in from the start. Really solid outing for him. Good team win.

Thank you Jordan Montgomery! Our first quality start of the year, which is just what the doctor ordered. Mo needs to get the contract extension drawn up and signed.

I must say the diet mountain dew tastes much better after a victory.

Yesh, he was really good tonight, TexasCard, and like you pointed out, this team needed him to be after a 4 game slide. The definition of a stopper.

Where do some you’s guys go to for a box score? I’ve been using the MLB site for several years, but they have a new appearance and scroll format on the box score pages and they’re lousy.

I use MiLB.com for all the affiliates. They have box score and play by play. Its usually good but can lag sometimes. This is Palm Beach for example. https://www.milb.com/palm-beach/scores/single-a/florida-state

The ability to follow minor league games in progress has really improved, especially the A level leagues which used to be impossible.

1td, I use the MLB site too and didn’t like the new gameday format either, mostly because I had to spend a little time acquainting myself with it. I first noticed it during the WBC. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broken. I’m over it now though and don’t think about it. I think ESPN is okay and have used it a few times over the years.

The thing that has always irritated me with the MLB site, pre and post change, is when I scroll through the scores to click on the StL game, sometimes the wrong game pops up for me. That’s because I have StL selected as my favorite team. Your favorite team gets moved to the first score presented, but it takes a couple (or maybe more) seconds for that to happen, so I go ahead and click on the StL game wherever I see it. Sometimes the movement of the StL game happens right when I’m clicking, which causes me to select the wrong game. First world problem.

Thanks again, Bling. I just checked out the ESPN link and it’s a game saver. I can’t get the new MLB format to display the box for both teams at once. I have to click on one or the other team and it’s a genuine pain the backside. At any rate, I’ve bookmarked the ESPN page you posted and it’ll be my go to from now on.
