We’re in a mound grooming delay here in the bottom of the 4th…..and boy look at that young grounds keeper whacking that dirt down out there on the mound…..if we could get a few of our hitters going with that kind of power, we’d be in pretty good shape……wonder if the young fellow can pitch at all as we could sure use him …back to the action after a long delay.
Gorman throttles a drive to deep right field…..bombs away baby!…..into the seats for the rookie’s 9th round tripper on the year….4-3 Good Guys.
Dickerson on 3-2 sends a routine roller out to Farmer at short and he’ll scoop her on up and fling it on over to Joey Votto’s waiting mitt at 1st base for the out.
Romaine hits a one-hopper right at Farmer at SS and he’ll take his time in tossing an Ivy league lollipop on over to Votto for our #2.
Edman strikes out swinging.
St. Louis 4
Cincinnati 3July 15, 2022 at 8:56 pm #191364Let’s hope for a quick inning so Pallante can go 6
July 15, 2022 at 9:04 pm #191366Donavon did not exactly look like Kolten Wong or Bill Mazeroski on the turn.
July 15, 2022 at 9:06 pm #191367Pallante strikes out India with his 77th offering of this tight affair, to commence the Redleg 5th…. that’s Pallante’s 5th K this evening. Drury walks. Our old pal, Tommy Pham, with the count full, grounds it routinely to Arenado at 3rd who’ll fire it to Gorman at 2nd for one, but the throw to 1st will just miss getting Pham by a whisker, thus avoiding the double play. Votto grounds out to Goldy unassisted to retire the side with the Cards’ still leading 4-3.
July 15, 2022 at 9:10 pm #191368Rat – thanks for the explanation on the “Kenny” Hudson thing. I figured it was probably someone from your past with that name.
Need a couple more runs in this one. A one run lead is probably not enough with our middle relief. They tend to be threatened of being arrested for arson.
July 15, 2022 at 9:15 pm #191369Bottom of 5. Greene starts this inning at a rather lofty 90 pitches.
Carlson on 3-2 fidadills his way into a free pass.
Goldy raps a super Cincinnati friendly tailor made grounder out to 2nd base….and that’s as easy a 4-6-3 twin killing that you’ll ever lay witness to.
Arenado grounds out to Solano at 3rd.
Cards 4
Reds 3July 15, 2022 at 9:20 pm #191371Have looked at some photos or Cardinal players when the uniforms had the smaller Cardinal birds on them, and am not too sure I don’t like those uni’s better. It makes the “Cardinals” more prominent.
The current uni’s look a bit crowded in comparison.
July 15, 2022 at 9:23 pm #191373Giovanni Gallegos on for the Cards here to start inning #6. Farmer strikes out swinging. Solano strikes out swinging. Naquin singles to right at the conclusion of a 9 pitch at bat. Senzel strikes out swinging.
July 15, 2022 at 9:35 pm #191374Gino seems much better pitching in the 6th. Not as much pressure. Musta took away his matches.
July 15, 2022 at 9:37 pm #191375Nice inning for the sometimes uneasy Gallegos.
July 15, 2022 at 9:40 pm #191376Great try by Donovan gotta take chances sometimes.Thats a 50-50 i’d say
July 15, 2022 at 9:43 pm #191379Buck Farmer – that is quite a name. Probably more suited to football – maybe d-lineman. Sounds more like construction foreman than a sports participant though.
July 15, 2022 at 9:46 pm #191380Dickerson is primed to have a real good second half. Big hit there. Good to see O’Neill running well.
July 15, 2022 at 9:48 pm #191381Bottom of 6. Greene out & Buck Farmer in.
Donovan blisters a shot to deep right…. Naquin drifts back and it’s off the wall!….but Naquin plays the carom perfectly and we’re going to have a play at 2nd base ….Donovan is out…and it was not even a close play. Who’s coaching 1st tonight?…
O’Neill walks.
Gorman walks on 4 consecutive balls out of the zone and that will inspire the Reds pitching coach to pay his pitcher a little visit to see if there’s anything he can do to help him get a batter out in this game…… without a great outfield fielding assist of course.
Dickerson singles to right and here comes Tyler….with St. Louis’ 5th run of the game. Gorman halted his progress at 2nd base and with this the Reds skipper is making his way quickly towards the mound, Farmer has planted his last ear of corn in this game as he’s history.
Pitching change:
Kuhnel your new Reds hurler.
Romaine walks to load the bases totally up to their capacity.
Edman raps into a 4-6-3 DP
Cards 5
Reds 3July 15, 2022 at 9:50 pm #191382O’Niel is really fast.
July 15, 2022 at 9:58 pm #191383Hicks on to pitch for St. Louis in the top of the 7th.
Papierski grounds it out to Edman who was shaded over towards 2nd base and he’ll easily field it and fling it on over to 1st base for the out
India lines a shot….that Tommy E. quickly moves to his right to nicely pluck out of thin air for the out
Drury flies out to Dickerson in right.
Cards 5
Reds 3July 15, 2022 at 10:11 pm #191384Bottom of 7. Gibaut pitching for Cincy.
Carlson walks on 5 pitches…..the 7th free pass from the most gratuitous Cincinnati pitching staff this evening…..we should be up at least 8-3 in this game instead of 5-3.
Goldy walks and this Gibaut fellow is following in Buck Farmer’s foot paths in not having the ability to get anyone out in this game. Gibaut has thrown 9 pitches this inning and only one of them has entered the all important strike zone.
Now believe it or not, Gibaut balks the runners over to 2nd and 3rd.
Arenado strikes out looking.
Donovan sends a soft fly into left field that’s going to get down for a hit ..in comes Carlson with Goldy steaming around 3rd and he’ll do likewise and it’s 7-3 Cardinals.
O’Neill strikes out swinging.
Gorman strikes out looking on a very debatable call.
Cards 7
Reds 3July 15, 2022 at 10:14 pm #191385Donovan sure is a player
July 15, 2022 at 10:26 pm #191386Top of 8. Hicks still the St. Louis main man.
Pham grounds out to Donovan at 2nd base and Pham gave up running well before reaching the bag.
And that’s it for Hicks….though it should be it for Pham.
Pitching change:
Enter Genesis (properly pronounced “Hen-a-sis”) “Cabby” Cabrera.
Votto couldn’t check his swing and he’s down on strikes.
Farmer lines out to Edman at short.
Cards 7
Reds 3July 15, 2022 at 10:35 pm #191387Bottom of 8. Moreta pitching for the Redlegs.
Dickerson flies out to Senzel in deep center field just scant inches for reaching the track.
Romine grounds it down to Solano at 3rd and he’ll glove it and gun it on over to Votto at 1st for the out.
Edman grounds out to India at 2nd.
Cards 7
Reds 3July 15, 2022 at 10:41 pm #191388Top of 9. Cabby still pitching.
Solano drills a solid single to center.
Stephenson (ph’ing for Naquin) on 3-2 …Cabby had him 0-2…..lines a base hit to right-center field……and that’ll signal the end of the line for Cabby.
Pitching change:
And Cabby was very upset walking off…..and Marmol has to grab him quick to give the lad a quick scolding.
July 15, 2022 at 10:47 pm #191389O’Niel is really fast.
I just started watching, so I don’t know why you’re saying this, but I love the way O’Neill hits top speed as he rounds 1B on a homerun. At least it seems that way to me.
I wonder if guys who run really fast live longer, given time passes more slowly at high velocity? Or so it does if you buy Einstein’s relativity stuff.
July 15, 2022 at 10:51 pm #191390Helsley on for St. Louis
Senzel lines it into right for a hit and that will load the bases with no out.
Schrock lifts a fly out to semi short left field where O’Neill gets under that ball and has it and his reputation will cause Cincinnati to think twice about trying to score on the play as all runners will stand pat….one out.
India strikes out.
Drury whacks it deep to center….. Carlson back to the wall….and has it with no real estate to spare and that’s your ballgame!
Your fantastic final score:
St. Louis Cardinals 7
Cincinnati Reds 3* Sometimes you really make us think hard, Euro…..but in a good educational way.
July 15, 2022 at 11:15 pm #191392Wow another drama finish- bases loaded tying hit to deep center field Carlson all the way back with his back up against the wall catches it- game over. 5 ft farther and it would be extra innings. Felt good leading till 9th inning. Oh yeah we still had ab in bottom of 9th so maybe not that dramatic. Sounded good anyway. Helsley makes a difference.
7 tuns on 8 hits and alot of walks taken and some sac flys. Everybody contributed in some form on offense tonight. Its a winner.
Said O’Niels fast cause he was a rocket scoring from second on a base hit. He is really fast- so is Bader.
Much better tonight.
Go Cardinals!July 15, 2022 at 11:17 pm #191393Marmol was not happy with the way Cabrera exited the mound. You can’t show up the manager like that. Pujols gave Cabrera an earful in the dugout too.
