The other day we saw Alcantera and today we will see Ozuna. I guess that’s a lose lose kind of thing.

Seeing as Knizner is hitting .185, I think we will see a fair amount of Romine. Why not.

And Ozuna yanked two dingers yesterday in Cincinnati. We don’t need him to start heating up against us. This one will be another tough one as Wright is obviously having a fine year. I am going to call this one 6-3 Braves with Arenado going down on strikes three times.

And if the over/under on Kenny Hudson’s walks is three (3) which do you have? I’ll take the over.

Romine for Herrera may prevent Herrera from burying himself this season, but it also asks, how far into the future until our catcher of the future is ready for Yadi’s role?

There is not much in the off-season for a catcher upgrade, but Herrera needs to fine tune the bat with AB’s daily.

Welcome to the Cards Romine! Get ir done!

Also Yadi’s bat took years to become respectable. His job was to handle to staff. Difference is Herrera is a bat first catcher.

I get the sense Arenado is not Rats favorite player, despite the fact that he has a 153 OPS+ and has already accumulated 4.1 WAR this year.

In traditional terms he is knocking the ball at a .290 clip, with 17 jacks and 55 RBI. He also plays excellent defense.

He is Scott Rolen at the top of Scott’s game.

Hudson should be good for 5 IP, and I don’t think his walks have been out of control too often. In other words, he’s usually not a disaster, which is something.

Hopefully the pool noodles were lost in transit.

On the contrary BikeMike, I like watching Arenado play. I am pulling for him. I want him to hit .335 with 44 dingers and 122 rbi’s. Probably won’t get to that, but I think .290/35/110 is realistic. When him and Goldschmidt come up it’s like watching Pujols and Rolen from years ago. Plus I love watching him play 3rdbase. I used to love watching Kenny Reitz play 3rd back in the 1970s. Outstanding defenders.

Herrera could go either way. He hit .291 in 129 PAs in AAA which says yes, and he hit .231 in 437 PAs in AA which says no. There is the young for level aspect adding intrigue, but the expiration date on that will start to cast a shadow before too long. It is clear Mo needs to find a playable guy for next year in case it is not Herrera.

Someone is going to pay Willson Contreras a lot of money this upcoming off-season. It probably won’t be the Cards though.

Herrera hopefully benefitted from this callup. 22 Is still young. Lots of players come up and get overwhelmed the first go round.

The Cubs lead Milwaukee 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th at County Stadium.

Time to go and jog a little and then water the landscaping. Haven’t had hardly any rain here in SW Indiana for the last 3 weeks plus. Sure could use some as things are very dry.

Time to light the grill. Folks are showing up with meat to throw on the pile. And they are starting to get loose out in the kitchen too. It’ll be a real barn burner.

Not going too well I see. The score being 6-0 in the 3rd, I am surprised Hudson is still in there.

Mo’s vision is to be better than the likes of CIN, PIT, CHC, etc. He succeeds darn near every year.

What, is this a rain delay? I turned it off after we got behind 6-0. It’s too late for a rainout, right?

Mo’s vision is to be better than the likes of CIN, PIT, CHC, etc. He succeeds darn near every year.

Billy Beane used to say just get into the playoffs and hope for the best, because the playoffs are a “crapshoot” and don’t play out like the 162 game season. Look at Cardinals 2006 World Series title with 83 wins, 2011 with 90 wins and 2nd in the division. Won over 100 games in 04, 05, 2015 and other years with 95, 97 wins and no title to show. So there’s probably a lot to your statement that is true. He’s working with a limited budget and not going to break the bank. So there’s probably a serious thought of “be competitive, be contending for the division, and at least get in as a wild card and let it play out”. They aren’t going to, and can’t spend like LA, LA, NY, NY, Philadelphia, Boston.
It’s frustrating watching the pitching though for sure and knowing with the money for McFarland, Wittgren, VerHagen though could have got at least 1 good reliever and you’d think they could have found the money for another, and frustrating seeing them struggle against other likely playoff teams like Philadelphia and Atlanta and probably Philadelphia again and LA later this week and next.
