With 2 out and Cardinal runners occupying 1st & 2nd in the top of the 6th, Scherzer summons the powers that be to come on out to pay him a visit on the mound…..and he’s giving himself the hee-ho……looks like he may have pulled a muscle in his side. New pitcher should be with us shortly, but he’ll have extra time to warm up due to the impromptu circumstances.
May 18, 2022 at 8:39 pm #185537Adam Ottavino the new Met hurler. Adam inherits a pitcher favorable 1-2 count. If Adam whiffs him, he’ll be credited with the K and join a rather long list of pitchers who own the all time MLB record of having struck out a hitter with the fewest number (1) of pitches.
Albert whiffs, and Adam Ottavino now has himself a ML record under his belt.
May 18, 2022 at 8:43 pm #185538Dear John Mozeliak,
Please for the love of God let this be Jordan Hicks’ last start. I’ve asked nicely before but now I’m telling you stop this nonsense. He is best used at the end of the game in the 8th or 9th inning and preferably for only one of those innings. Please do not run him back out there in 5 days.

ParticipantI’m not a big fan of Walsh. Not sure what he has done to impress the Cardinals but I think he’s below average
May 18, 2022 at 8:45 pm #185540Been a crazy game so far. Who would if thunk there would be all these changes. Sosa doesn’t look serious. Who knows about Scherzer. The game goes on. That Ottavino Met pitchers got crazy movement on his slider.
May 18, 2022 at 8:47 pm #185541Lindor ain’t no power hitter. Jeez that curves gotta cut.
May 18, 2022 at 8:49 pm #185542Walsh looked like hes not ready yet. What happened to our bull pen from last year? Still got Cabrera, Galleagos and Hensley though.
May 18, 2022 at 9:10 pm #185546Nado dinger with Goldy on base! 2 runs Cardinals!
May 18, 2022 at 9:21 pm #185547Dearest TexasCard – I hear you loud and clear and have always respected your posts. With your blessings, I would like to trot Jordan out there one more time, so to please our owner, who’s crazy idea it was to try Jordan out as a starter in the first place. If he doesn’t go at least 5 innings strong in his next start, then he’s going straight to the pen, where he belongs, as you and I well know. If you do not green light his next scheduled start, then it will not be a happening thing. Mr. Dewitt will hopefully understand. Please give my best to your lovely wife and stay cool, TexasCard.
Fondest regards,
Mo
May 18, 2022 at 9:29 pm #185548Lol Pugs. Too funny.
May 18, 2022 at 9:29 pm #185549Fondest regards, Mo? What about Curly and Larry? Didn’t they send regards?
Would be nice to win tomorrow and split the series. Definitely need at least two of three in Pittsburgh.

ParticipantWell McFarland has come in and still is horrible. They keep trotting him out there. Send Woodford down but keep him. Insanity.
May 18, 2022 at 9:31 pm #185551Alonso now with a 3-run 9th inning homer to up the Met lead to 11-4, which is going to make a Cardinal comeback very very difficult next inning.
May 18, 2022 at 9:42 pm #18555211-4 Metropolitans your unhappy final. Need to come right back tomorrow afternoon and beat these guys….and beat them badly.
May 19, 2022 at 8:10 am #185559Well, that didn’t go well.
Cards are still very much a work in progress.
If Flaherty can come back soon and be good that should put Hicks in the pen and the pitching would likely be improved all the way around.
Don’t know what to say about the offense. Maybe it can be ‘good enough’ if the pitching improves?

ParticipantLooks like its time for the double switch!
McFarland and Walsh go to AAA, and get Woodford and Whitley back up!
This should be a no brain decision.May 19, 2022 at 8:47 am #185563Not exactly. Due to his MLB service time accrued, McFarland cannot be sent to the minor leagues without his consent.

Participantno reason to stretch out Woodford for starting role, as Marmol seems determined to stick with Hicks..?
Just not sure starting is his best position. He was great in the pen.! Plus they have Libby coming up from AAA at some point who could start…May 19, 2022 at 9:07 am #185565Lee
ParticipantOr better yet… Get Woodford some starts in the 5th position for Hicks, put Hicks in pen as closer or set up man. and stick with the dbl switch.! Sorry for the 3 comments in a row, just had some time to kill.

ParticipantOK, well that is a poorly written contract for the team. so he just is terrible and nothing they can do about it, hogwash!
May 19, 2022 at 11:26 am #185573It isn’t the contract wording. It is the CBA. Longer-term MLB veterans have protection from being sent down to the minors. It’s the way MLB works.
A team can always release an underperforming player, but then they have to eat money. (In this case, $2.5 million.) The Nationals had released McFarland last June, which was why he was available to join the Cardinals in the first place. Relievers are especially disposable across MLB.

Tcard….. Agree 100%. However, he may be our best option right now. Hicks is Plan B because Flaherty is out…. we need to find a better Plan C….. Woodford will have to start being more efficient and I don’t think Liberatore is quite ready for the big time. Presently things are a little bleak starter-wise.
