Ok, we now face the worst team in baseball. In our home ballpark. If we cant sweep these bums we might as well mail it in. 2011 not withstanding, if we happen to lose two of three this series I think we begin to look ahead and begin to plan for 2022.

I dont think we become sellers unless some teams want to take a gamble on players like DeJong, O’Neill, Carpenter, Martinez, Bader, etc, etc. And then we’d have to get a really sweet deal. However, the nucleus of this club needs to stay intact for 2022 and beyond.

I’d exclude O’Neill from the seller list and put him in the nucleus group.

Now 8 games out BUT still 1/2 the season to play……

I’m not convinced they can put a rotation together for 2022 without going out and getting 3 starters. I think the injury prone guys will stay just that – injured.

The lineup is probably only 2-3 players away from being decent.

It will be interesting to see what the FO does because it should be crystal clear that standing pat like they did this year outside of Arenado won’t get it done.

I think the minors won’t have anything much to offer for 2022 – still another year away so, that means the FO needs to go get 3 starters, a couple of bullpen guys, and a couple of position players to mix and match with what they have unless they want to let 2022 be another average year.

2021 was the year to find out what they had in the house and clearly they have too many injury prone and / or underperforming players & pitchers.

So, knowing that, how much can they fix for 2022 and then add to that from the minors and another move or two for 2023?

Milwaukee won again over Colorado by the score of 5-0 at Miller Park.

Atlanta was a 4-0 winner over Cincinnati at Crosley Field.

And McKinstry just hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 2nd to put the Dodgers up 4-0 early against the Cubs. Alzolay and Kershaw in that one.

We might not be losing ground on the Cubs and Reds but we are now eight (8) games behind Milwaukee.

Time to right the ship – AND RIGHT NOW!!!

Can anyone tell me what happened to Gant?

Gant was demoted to the bullpen. Too many walks.

And the Dodgers take three of four against the Cubs in Los Angeles. 7-1 the final on Sunday night.

    Every little bit helps.

    Re: Gant
He quit stranding runners in June (5 GS), like he was in April/May (9 GS), because his groundouts decreased, and his flyball/line drives increased into extra base hits.

    April/May 44.2 IP
    71 GB (44%), 62 FB (38%), 30 LD (18%)

    June 20 IP
    22 GB (28%), 37 FB (48%), 19 LD (24%)

    April/May
    4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, .291 SLG% allowed

    June
    4 doubles, 1 triple, 5 HR, .534 SLG% allowed

Gants BB% did increase by 3.1% in June, but the outs he used to get behind them became x-base hits and runs allowed.

He has a history of hitting a wall as a SP’r and durability issues as a reliever. It’s that time in the season for him again.

So then Mo’s idea as to how to fix things is do what we’ve always done over and over again and wonder why it doesn’t work…

Since, for some incomprehensible reason, we decided not to get Nogoski doing turns in a MiLB outfield the moment Goldy signed, we had no way to stick him in the MLB lineup for a bit to see what he could do, even though god knows there was ample opportunity to have done it this year. So we gave him a few pinch hit attempts and he basically flat lined.

Now we DFA him. So whether we lose him now or later somebody else sooner or later is going to be in a position where they give him the look and the chance he never got here. Nobody knows what will happen, but dang, it sure seems like we have seen this material before. (In 2019 .295 BA, .413 OBP with 75 RBI in 117 games with Memphis, 60 BB against 54 K, so lets DFA that guy instead of Dean, Hurst, Williams, Lane, Carpenter or 3 or 4 other guys on the 40 man.).

Not sure how many pitches LeBlanc is good for but he used up 22 of them in the 1st.

Their guy, 11 pitches in the first.

Carlson drives in Sosa … Cards up 1-0. Goldy up next.

Question: why does Shildt hit Goldy second in the order? Why would he not have Lars hit second and adjust the order down.

    – Lars bats left handed
    – Lars will see better pitches with better hitters behind him versus hitting lower in the order
    – Goldy will see better pitches with runners on base … assuming Carlson and Lars can get on

Goldy really needed to put it in play with a man on 3rd and one out. Anything but a K. Contact, any contact. Jeesh. And then a fly out by NA so we leave the man of 3rd.

I also think Arenado should still bat third in your lineup, 1964. Goldy could bat 4th.

Goldy needed to shorten his swing on that strikeout swing. He looked like he wanted to hit a three run home run with only 1 runner on base.

Agree 1964, I like Nooty batting 2nd too.

LeBlanc gets out of a jam. He is at 63 pitches thru four … 42 of these strikes (67%).

I wonder how long he will go. Can’t complain about the job he’s done.

I think get him thru five. I think getting thru six may be asking too much.

Well, except for the tater ball just now.

LeBlanc did a decent job. The tater hurt, but he has kept his team in the game and threw strikes.

Now the offense needs to get things going.
