Here’s an example of mixed emotions — I just checked this thread to see what time today’s game starts.

Before the season I picked a White Sox – Reds World Series; an infamous 1919 rematch. But our club is making a lot of noise early. The smart betting is probably still on the Dodgers in the NL.

Got a lot of games to play so who knows. But it’s good to see our club playing well. I still see DeJong as our weak link on offense right now. And Shildt plays Carpenter too much. If you are going to play those guys, then you should be hitting them in the lower spots, no higher than 6th.

The kid in right is holding his own. Bader is solid in center, and hopefully keeps improving on offense. O’Neill is tantalizing in left – if he could learn better pitch selection and contact, he would be an all-star. He has not exactly earned a no-doubt every day lineup spot, but he has done enough you want to see him in there most days.

Knizner is a good backup behind the plate, but has not hit much when given an opportunity. Another guy you hope can get better.

And the pitching – well, that has been the best part of this club.

The pen has really split into the cans and the can’ts. The good half is real good.

It is very impressive to take 2 of 3 from the Crew in their park. We did catch them at a good time. (for us)

Can someone who saw the game comment on how Edman looked at ss?

What a really nice win and series win for the Cards. These are the sorts of games that get you to October, and the ones that steel you to win in October.

I do think the team is one consistent bat and a co-ace with Flaherty from being a true Series contender. The bat could be on the team with the possibility of Goldy picking it back up or O’Neill or Dejong having a hot streak at the right time. The staff may need to be bolstered by trade (*cough* Scherzer) but it should be something Mo can look to do at the deadline.

No mention of Matt Holliday on the youtube telecast. Think he did ok.

Edman is impressive all around. A lot of value added to the roster.

It’s still early but not as early as it was, lol.

No need to panic 2-3 weeks ago, no need to start making room for another pennant just yet either.

This team seems to have the ability to grind.
