I have watched molina get a lot of clutch rbi hits when nobody else was.

Well, walking in a run is about what we should expect. How about another.

Looking at Gallegos his numbers have gotten worse since the sticky testing started.

If Reyes blows this baby, Rat will throw a royal tizzy. Considering where our Birds are at in the standings, losing this game wouldn’t exactly be the end of the world. Go Birds though….. because I still love the rascals….as terribly flawed as they may be.

Missed the ending. How did Reyes get out of that pickle?

two strikeouts and a grounder to short to end it

Alford got a hit to get on base to start it…. but then the next two Strikeouts and the grounder to short.

Close one powered by Edman. Some more stellar defense from our laser fast CF der. Galleagos scared me tonight and Reyes was actually very good. Garcia looking better and better abd Goldy with 3 hits. Carp got his DW and DeJong breaks the ice with a triple and run.

Laser fast CFer is .161/.232/.195/.427 for the month of August.

Laser fast LFer is hitting .188 for the season with RISP as a MOTO bat.

The Cardinals have a ton of thinking to do.

Starting pitching is the walking wounded.

Bullpen had regressed to the point that they cannot be trusted.

The young outfield is thin and really not performing as needed at the plate.

One more year of Yadi and they’ll need a new catcher and even he is only adequate at this point in his career.

2nd base and shortstop are up for grabs and someone has to hit leadoff and get on base at a .350+ clip.

When you really sit down and look at this team it is absolutely amazing they are playing .500 ball.

Outside of 1st base, 3rd base (who has been a bit of a disappointment), and I guess O’Neil in lf (maybe Carlson in rf?) – so let’s call it 3.5 position players – every other spot really needs upgrading.

Yeah, I had noticed that both Carpenter and DeJong have a higher BA with RISP than O’Neill. The 30+% k rate and one size fits all swing really limit him, especially vs the better pitchers.

The reason why the Cards are so frustrating to watch is the lack of a true leadoff hitter and the lack of clutch hitting in the 5-7 positions in the lineup. O’Neill and DeJong were supposed to be RBI guys. O’Neill has all of 48 RBI and DeJong has an anemic 40 RBI.

Neither Goldschmidt nor Arenado are having especially great years but they are experienced professional hitters with very respectable BA with RISP. Who knows if guys like O’Neill and Carlson will grow into that. DeJong won’t unless he gets a chance to try a different organization as he has gone steadily down hill here, and those quotes we saw a while back illustrate how mucked up he is in the head.
