1982 willie
ParticipantBccran, sorry life or role models hasn’t taught you manners. Trouble is you don’t tend to laud when it comes to certain players. Yes you can be critical just like everyone else, but most people know the difference between being critical and just being an ass.
August 22, 2021 at 5:56 pm #170474bccran
ParticipantNow you’re the one that’s name calling, willie? I hope the moderators correct you for it.
I’ve been plenty positive through the years on here. About Ownership, General Management, Field Management, and most of the players. If you look at recent posts, you’ll see that I have been one of the people who has been pulling for the Cards to make the WC. Even when the odds have been against it. While other people have been dissing everything and everybody in sight out of their frustration.
Why Carp? Because ever since he got that huge extension he has gone in the tank. Also ever since they put the shift on against him. I fault him for not going the other way as much as possible. He actually bunted one time down the 3rd base line and got a double. One time only.
DeJong? Because he’s been going down hill every year since his very solid rookie year. With no adjustments to his swing and no apparent attempt to improve his awful plate discipline. No excuse. He’s lost at the plate, and has been for several years.
Bader? He’s had 5 years to adjust to major league pitching.
And he still is making the same mistakes. That’s foolish.
And he has those cute little things after catching the ball and the nutty gestures at the plate which hold up the game. He being absolutely scorched right now on all the other fan forums. I don’t feel out of place saying he’s an embarrassment after 5 years of being given every break in the world to remain a starter. Without fully earning it.August 22, 2021 at 6:04 pm #170475Nice post, Wooster. Thanks for the Amtrak update, Bling. Ever since seeing the Gene Wilder-Richard Pryor movie “Silver Streak”, I’ve had a hankering to cruise cross country via rail. It’s just one of those things you keep putting off and the next thing you know you’re dead. I don’t want this to happen. I envision kicking back in my chair watching the beautiful countryside whiz on by, sipping on a Pepsi and daydreaming of the Octobers of 2006 and 2011. I want to take it to Phoenix, so I think my best path would be picking up the Amtrak in Columbus, Wisconsin and going south to Chicago and then going on to Flagstaff, AZ., as I don’t believe it goes anywhere near Phoenix. Keep us posted on your trip, Bling. Go Birds!

ParticipantPugs – The trip on Amtrak through the Rockies is beautiful. I’d recommend the California Zephyr. It goes Chicago-Omaha-Denver-Salk Lake City-San Francisco.
August 22, 2021 at 6:23 pm #170477Knock it off, cranny! Not one more word from you re hoping the mods take action.
Period.
August 22, 2021 at 6:29 pm #170479I once had a dear friend who went through one failed relationship after another.
He told me that he finally looked in the mirror one day and realized the common denominator in all the failed relationships was him. HE was the one who needed to change.
The common denominator in the all of these squabbles is you and I’m tired of it.
August 22, 2021 at 6:41 pm #170480Let’s call a spade a spade. Willie, Cranny and UCONN are all special people. Entirely different people, but all special in their own way. Sprinkle in the fact that they are all rabid Redbird fans and what do you have? Complete harmony. That’s what I envision from this day forth between Willie & Cranny…..mutual and unequivocal harmony.

ParticipantI’m sorry, UConn, but that’s very unfair. I’m sure there are others who would agree. I try to talk baseball as much as possible. And attempt to back up my statements or opinions with facts. Especially about our minor leaguers. You and I both know I’ve been doing that for years. But when someone attacks me and calls me an “ASS” on here, breaking all the posting rules, you bet I’m going to ask the moderators to intercede. It’s the proper and fair thing to ask. As a matter of fact, Brian just posted not long ago about name calling. So the request was right on cue. There’s a difference between disparaging a player or two, as I did, and having another poster disparage me for doing it. Big difference. It’s the poster who attacks another poster and calls them a name who should be reprimanded, sir. Not me. Go back and see who started the confrontation. It was obviously willie. I don’t start confrontations, but I sure will respond to them when attacked. Thank you for understanding.
August 22, 2021 at 7:05 pm #170482I can read. No one directly called you an ass. Your posts come across as playing the victim and I’m tired of it.
Period.
August 22, 2021 at 7:17 pm #170483I saw the Zephyr route and it looked majestic Cranny. But I want to accomplish two things on the trip. Get to my old stomping grounds of Phoenix and travel roughly the same route as the Silver Streak…..only I won’t be taking the final leg to Los Angeles. The Silver Streak movie went from LA to Chicago. What would really make the trip complete would be getting thrown off the train and then walking to some old ranch out in the boonies and once there, learning how to milk a cow.

ParticipantRead it again, UConn. That kind of stuff isn’t allowed, and you know it.
Pugs – that’s classic! The image is wonderful!
August 22, 2021 at 7:31 pm #170485I can read. Stop. Now!

ParticipantBccran, like I said you can talk about players all you want, just don’t have to disparage them. If you really know anything about baseball, then that should be no problem. I agree with your general assessments about these players but you have always hated bader just because he doesn’t fit your outdated mold of a baseball player. That can be backed up by anyone going back through all your posts. Look I said, all I heard from you was crickets when bader was hitting well and that can be backed up to. One time you said nice job bader. Funny how I could know that. Maybe bader is playing himself off team but we will see once the season is over just where his stats fall. You dont have any qualms against attacking players with names and insults but always get upset when it’s aimed at you. True we are here to talk about the team and funny how there is no issues with hardly any other poster. Just one. I’ve always been one to stick up for those who arent in position to stick up for themselves. I have big shoulders. So going forward that isn’t going to change. I’m done with this and you can ramble on if you want but no I didn’t start it. But as for Me, I’m ending my part in it now.

ParticipantThat’s fine, willie, as long as you differentiate between disparaging another poster and disparaging a player. There’s a big difference. I disparaged a player or two. You disparaged another poster. But you’re right. It’s time to move on.
Onward and upward.August 22, 2021 at 10:01 pm #1704961982 willie
ParticipantThere you go again, you won’t let me move on. I don’t differentiate. If a poster is disparaging players, he deserves treatment inkind. That’s what I said, I have their backs. Until the next time which history has taught us there will be one, have a good day. Go Cardinals.

ParticipantGoldschmidt had another multi hit game today.
His OPS the last 3 months –
Jun – .839
Jul – .959
Aug – .870Pretty much what we expected? Plus great defense.
August 22, 2021 at 10:33 pm #170499I don’t get how one poster can let another poster get under his skin. If you don’t like another posters opinion or comment, just read it and move on. What’s the deal? Looking for someone to gang up on? Trying to be the dominant opinion? I just don’t get.
Regarding Bader, I think he is still growing as a player. He hasn’t matured as a player yet. Just my opinion. Same goes for O’Neill. I have a feeling he’s going to hit for better average and strike out less as he gets better and better. People need to keep in mind that professional baseball is hard. You’re constantly up against people who are as good as you are, if not better than you are.
I do wish Shildt would give Bader some rest. He definitely comes back stronger after being out of the loop for a few days. O’Neill can handle CF for awhile. Give ‘zero’ i.e. Austin Dean a few starts in LF. He put up some impressive numbers while in the Marlins’ minor league system.

ParticipantGood point, Mudville. If a poster disparages a player it’s just his opinion.
Which I believe he has a right to have.August 23, 2021 at 8:19 am #170510Cards are 10-5 vs. the Pirates so far this year.
I doubt the players discussed earlier are embarrased. They might be frustrated, experiencing anxiety, just plain old pissed, or perhaps even sad.
Does Carpenter realize he’s overpaid at this point for his on field contribution? Yeah, but he’s not going to give any of it back and he probably does not blush each time a paycheck hits his account.
I wonder if the light hitting Ozzie Smith was embarrassed early in his career or if he understood his role and worked to improve at the plate?
Players play – the testosterone and adrenalin flows – they focus on the task at hand and do the best they can in the moment. If they fail too much they eventually get replaced. They may express embarrassment over a particular play but that is likely not representative of their overall emotional state.
If anyone in the equation feels embarrassed it would be the FO folks but somehow I don’t think that would describe their emotional reaction either.
Now, spectators and observers (fans and writers) can feel any number of different emotions regarding what they see unfolding in front of them – but they are outside the event bubble and obviously have no direct impact on the outcome. Coaches and players can describe a particular performance as ’embarrassing’ meaning very poor but it is simply a turn of phrase – they are not experiencing it as an actual emotion.
Now, Deshaun Watson probably is embarrassed by the graphic details that came out about his off the field behavior.
August 23, 2021 at 8:46 am #170515forsch the examples you include are 2- Perennial All Stars, a rookie, and a 2nd year player. The first two have had successful careers. The last 2 are just getting started. Bader has not ever been consistently good. A couple hot streaks and that is it. He sucks. I love Carp but he sucks too. He should be embarrassed enough to retire. I suck at golf. I am embarrassed the way I play. Cran said nothing wrong. Just gave his opinion.
August 23, 2021 at 10:18 am #170526bccran
ParticipantThanks, KS. There’s an old adage of “attack the post, but not the poster”. If folks stay with that, things are fine.
August 23, 2021 at 11:23 am #170532So we need to change the rules of what is and isn’t an embarrassment based on who it is? Bader has had a good offensive year, overall, but because he has had 1 really bad month, he is an embarrassment?
Treat all the posters the same but don’t treat all the players the same. It’s hard to discuss how good or valuable a player is if you have to use different valuation methods for each player based on how a poster feels about said player.
August 23, 2021 at 11:39 am #170534Since they graduated high school, Tommy Edman has more plate appearances than Harrison Bader. In the major league, Bader only has 200 more plate appearances than Edman. If Edman is just getting started, so is Bader. Both of them have a little over 1000 plate appearances in the majors.
Ks, since your comment about cranny was included in a paragraph that directly addressed me, I don’t know if you were asking it at me. If so, I did not directly address cranny.
August 23, 2021 at 1:26 pm #170543Bickering, or worse, attempts at bullying between posters is annoying. Sometimes you have to sort through a paragraph or more of nonsense before you get to what the poster has to say that is worthwhile.
