449′, wowAugust 14, 2021 at 1:48 am #169768This is the kind of day-after-the-night-game I like to read about. Love all those 0000s and fun to see the Noot has bashed another ph hr.
August 14, 2021 at 6:57 am #169772We are 5.5 games out of the second wild card and riding a 4 game winning streak with 47 left to play.
If we run the table we finish 106-56.
In other words we’ve got wiggle room.
August 14, 2021 at 7:34 am #169775I’m glad to see Flaherty do well in his final AAA rehab start……..

STL +03 (7-4)August 14, 2021 at 11:12 am #169787Man, you watch Flaherty and it makes you think “what if?”. Had Jack not gone down for some two months, maybe we would be in the thick of the post season mix.
Alas, probably too little too late. This has been our M.O. all year – beat up on the weaker clubs, at least most of the time, and get knocked around by the better clubs.
It does give some optimism for next year. A return of Flaherty and Hudson to the rotation for the full season should make a big difference.

jj-cf-stlParticipant“What if” 2021 had the universal DH?
August 14, 2021 at 12:01 pm #169791I do not like the DH.
August 14, 2021 at 1:20 pm #169794I have been a loyal NL guy my whole life. I still get mad when the NL loses the All Star game, which seems to happen every year. I can remember in the 70’s and 80’s the NL always won the All Star game.
But I have changed my tune on the DH. It is time to accept it. Pitchers don’t need to be getting hurt while hitting or running the bases plus the game seems to be starved for offense. And maybe the DH would prevent Shildt from removing our starter before the 5th inning, which might help save our bullpen.

So who does?
You could apply that logic to all baseball players. Why should pitchers be exempt from the natural risks of the game?
No to the DH! A thousand times no!

IMO position players are being paid to produce offensively and defensively. Pitchers are being paid to pitch. Pitchers are already more susceptible to injury because of arm, elbow, and shoulder issues. Adding on top of that risk seems unnecessary to me. And finding top quality pitchers seem to be harder to find therefore harder to replace.
August 14, 2021 at 4:42 pm #169808Of course I respect your opinion gscottar, and while I agree with part of it (finding quality pitchers is hard), I might also add that pitchers are as a rule not every day players, which lessens their exposure to on field injuries. That may or may not (I have no statistical evidence) balance out the risk factor. In any case I don’t accept it as an argument for imposing the DH on the league.
Rah Cardinals!
Booo DH!August 14, 2021 at 5:28 pm #169812If playing baseball is too dangerous they could sell insurance instead.
