12:10 p.m.
RHP Adam Wainwright (1-0, 1.50) vs. RHP Lucas Giolito (1-1, 4.37)
FS Midwest // KMOXNote the White Sox have moved this start up from 1:10 due to the weather forecast.
(This is our third shot at a Game #6 thread this season…)
August 14, 2020 at 1:50 pm #135172There is a riot planned (I’ve stopped calling them protests, if you lived here you would also) for 1.2 miles south of the stadium tomorrow afternoon. The are planning to shut down/block the Dan Ryan Expressway which is the highway right next to the Sox Stadium (35th street). It’s planned to happen at 47th street. They did this to another highway a couple of years ago and it caused other problems all over the city. And yes, it is a federal offense, but our state/county/city government don’t appear to want to stop it.
No fans will help the traffic situation of course and I assume everyone with a brain will avoid the area, but the buses/cars might have a little trouble leaving. These groups have gotten so radical here, I could also see them storming the stadium just to cause more chaos. It’s not likely, but still something to watch out for.
August 14, 2020 at 2:06 pm #135176I thought it started later in the afternoon, but this claims the riot will start at noon.
August 14, 2020 at 2:07 pm #135177We can almost say it is a push to become playoff eligible. The Cubs are running away with the division, so it is likely more a matter of playing enough games first, and of course winning a good number of them second.
Still don’t understand Flaherty starting out of the gate. Something was said of not pushing him too much, but then couldn’t you say that of every pitcher? I guess the rationale is that Jack is the most valuable, and the other guys can be the ones sacrificed to take the hit if they do too much too soon. Not a real strong argument, but that must be it.
August 14, 2020 at 2:44 pm #135182Well they pushed him 7 innings out of the gate but he hasn’t pitched since then. I agree they need to be careful with the pitching but at some point they need to take the kid gloves off.
August 14, 2020 at 6:09 pm #135191Here is the expected Dan Ryan protest march route per NBC affiliate in Chicago.
– Westbound on 47th St to the Dan Ryan Expressway onto the Dan Ryan via the ramp
– Marchers will then proceed northbound to the 43rd St exit ramp and walk eastbound on 43rd to Indiana, North on Indiana to 31st St
– West on 31st St to Michigan Avenue
– North on Michigan Ave to Roosevelt Rd (Grant Park)If it goes that way, the marchers should be on the other side of the Interstate from Comiskey.
August 14, 2020 at 7:54 pm #135193Carlson will bat sixth in Game 1.
August 14, 2020 at 8:08 pm #135196Mr. Carlson will have quite the story to tell about breaking in. Be nice if it involved a tater.

ParticipantAlways exciting when a highly prized prospect plays his first game. Drew. Rasmus. Taveras. Just hope the hype hasn’t put too much pressure on Dylan.
August 14, 2020 at 8:50 pm #135210As Twitter already knows, Dylan Carlson will bat sixth for the #stlcards in his MLB debut tomorrow. In four of the five games the team played this season, the starting outfield batted seven, eight and nine.

The best way to keep pressure off Carlson would be for his teammates to score runs.
We already should know that there will be significant fan overreaction whether he goes 4-for-4 or 0-for-4. But hey, there hasn’t been baseball for so long, a storybook win in the first game back could do wonders for everyone…
August 14, 2020 at 9:01 pm #135212I would have preferred Carlson start his rookie campaign next year, and get 400 ABs and possibly the ROY. But after all of the disappointment we have had this year, at least this is one positive thing to look forward to.
August 14, 2020 at 9:03 pm #135213Fan overreaction is natural. Far as pressure he’s the #1 prospect in the organization and has been highly regarded for a couple of seasons.
That being said if he went 1-4 I’d take it. Just get a hit and play solid defense and I’ll be happy.

stlcard25ParticipantHe’s batting 6th, but does Twitter know what position Carlson is going to play?

Only Mike Shildt knows, and he isn’t saying yet. My guess is he wants to discuss it with whoever Carlson is replacing in the field.

ParticipantDo we have a lineup yet?
August 15, 2020 at 9:29 am #135239Zoom and TV screens are it…
The Cardinals will attempt to begin their star-crossed season again Saturday at White Sox Park, followed by a 5-game series at Wrigley. The Sox are not credentialing St. Louis media to chronicle this historic event. MLB will not step in. Shameful.

August 15, 2020 at 9:45 am #135242RHP Nabil Crismatt, RHP Ryan Meisinger and RHP Jesús Cruz join C José Godoy on the #StlCards taxi squad with the team in Chicago. LHP Ricardo Sanchez is the 29th player for today's twin-bill.

ParticipantThanks, BW. Lineup makes sense.
August 15, 2020 at 10:45 am #135250I like that lineup.
Heck, I just like having a lineup, any lineup, at this point. Holding my breath that we can get through this next hour and a half without another positive test, lol.
Unbelievably, we start the day in second place. Let’s do this.
Go Cards!

jj-cf-stlParticipantI like that Adam is starting. For me he was our best pitcher last postseason, his single GS this season has been our best, he has GS incentives in his contract and a limited window left to add to his career wins.
Play Ball!
August 15, 2020 at 11:34 am #135258What process the 10 COVID-positive #stlcards players will need to follow to return, how the active roster is effectively being managed as 29 and much more news from PBO John Mozeliak in Chicago this morning. jj-cf-stlParticipantOf the starting lineup and Wainwright, 8 of the 10 debuted as Cardinals.
