NOT the way you want to start an inning, Buddy Boy…..a free pass. And Shildt & Maddux don’t like what they see as they both walk out to the hill side-by-side……and Norris cannot convince them that he’s 100% so his night is history. Wonder what our skipper and Maddux saw because they both looked at each other with this astonished look on their faces and then without saying a word, both made a direct beeline towards the mound. Remember when you were a kid and someone would tape a note to your back that read “HIT ME” and you had no idea it was there, but everybody else saw it. One must wonder if that’s what Shildt and Maddux saw on Norris’ back???

Hicks fires one into the netting a la Ankiel….that will keep the hitters from getting comfy.

Sweet! Machado gets rung up gazing and he’s a barking like a hound dog at the ump.

Nice work by Mr. Hicks…going back briefly to that pitch he airmailed over everyone’s heads, with a guy like Hicks it probably wouldn’t be such a bad idea to fire an errant one like that intentionally every now and then in certain situations. It would have to absolutely scare the daylights out of the batter and the guys waiting to hit that inning. Matter of fact he may want to “accidentally” fire it so off course every now and then that the on deck hitter has to duck.

Machado sure did look foolish there, Euro. Some players can argue in exactly the same manner that Machado just did…and look cool doing it. That’s one gift that Manny Machado does not have.

What a 1-2 late innings punch Hicks & Carlos would make. I think we may be looking at 2019 here, gang.

That’s a season saving win right there. A sweep would not only have been humiliating, but would put the team in a rather precarious position in the wild card.

Well, looks like the demise of Waino predicted by some of the “experts” on this site was greatly exaggerated. While the young ones wilted, the old man stepped up tonight.

I wouldn’t be so quick to “eat crow”. First off, they are one of the most intelligent birds floating around out there. They fashion their own tools out of small pieces of tin, aluminum and other materials….mainly for nest maintenance. Crows work very well together as a team and when munching on that delectable roadkill, they will take turns working as sentries to warn of any possible intruders, mainly the much feared hawk. And think twice before you do a crow harm as they never forget the perpetrators. When I first heard about this years ago at my old house in Whitefish Bay, I decided to put this to the test. I went quickly running and shouting at this one crow who was just minding his own business on my back lawn. Subsequently nothing happened afterward. Then a few days later, I whipped a football at one in my back yard and from that day onward, most times when I went outside during the daylight, you’d hear one or more of them violently calling out. God knows what they were saying, probably something along the lines of “here comes that s.o.b. who tried to hit Jimmy with that big ball!” I know it was me drawing the crows angst because when my daughter ventured outside you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet.

We needed that win in short term but it could have long term consequences. Anyone else worried that it may force the team to sign Wainwright for another year? — blocking others and occupying payroll that could be used for an upgrade elsewhere?
