40 games ago I predicted a 84-78 season (Playoff Chances thread). Could be prophetic, but I hope not! Maybe we can win the last 13 games and take the division, but on their current trend line (3-6 for the last nine games), they will have trouble breaking 85. Biggest trouble area is the bullpen—it’s not contender quality and hasn’t been for a few years, three to be exact. The end of season push looks pretty bleak right now.

They made a nice run in August, but September has been another story. Tomorrow does not look promising with Wainwright on the hill. Tough to win in this era without a strong bullpen, and Waino is unlikely to be extended past five if he is pitching well.

We will see though. Maybe the offense can carry the load.

Even with Waino only being a shell of his former self ability wise, I don’t presently see anyone else on the squad who I would want more than Waino to stop the bleeding…..and boy it’s a gushing out! Waino musters all he has within and comes up big tonight.

This seems to me to be the biggest “must win” game they have played since 2015.

Waino gave up four quick runs in his last outing. Can’t do that again today and expect to come back, so need to keep him on a short leash and keep Ross ready from the first pitch. And keep Cecil in street clothes.

Why is DeJong even in the lineup? And hitting 3rd???

Whats his average now, is he down into the .220s yet? And about all he does is strikeout anymore.

Hey Shildt, uh, whats going on???

Anybody seen Tyler O`Neill? Shildt forgot TO was on the roster I guess.IMHO starting Waino is a huge mistake.I hope I am wrong the LAD bats have been on fire and that junkball crap Waino throws worries the hell out of me.

The TBA pitcher is now Ross Stripling, 2.61 ERA, 8-3, RHP. Tough way for Cards to close the series trying to avoid a sweep. And with ESPN doing the broadcast, I’ll be listening in to our KMOX playcallers.

Only the second lead they’ve had in this series. The other followed Wisdom’s grand slam the other night. Hoping for better results tonight.

Thats the second reference by the espn announcers, linking wainwright and 2011 success, of his and the teams.

He was injured the entire season.

The Dodgers relief pitcher Venditi is a “switch pitcher.” Can throw both left and right and has a glove that allows him to switch hands on the mound. But he can only pitch with one arm for each batter, right or left. Can’t switch arms during an at bat. They say you can see something in every baseball game you’ve never seen before. That’s it for me!

Yep, me too, CardsRedSox4Ever. Wonder if he’s a switch hitter too? Switch hitting is kind of weird. I’m totally useless with my left hand, but when we used to play fast pitch with a tennis ball out in the street as kids, we had to bat the reverse way that we normally batted. Not bragging here because I always pretty much sucked at baseball anyway, but every once in awhile batting lefty I would wallop a majestic shot that would send a shiver down my spine…..much much farther that I could have batting my normal righty….pretty weird.

So far Wainos smoke and mirrors and junkball pitching has worked .85 pitches after 5 innings is time to get the pen ready.Let’s see some more offense to add to the lead.

Pugs, sounds like you were a natural switch hitter with untapped talent. Oh, what could have been! Ha!

Waino’s curve has eaten the Dodgers up tonight. 6 innings of shutout ball is huge from him. Hopefully we can get a W.

Ha ha!! “Untapped” may not be the word, CardsRedSox4Ever……more like “untappable” talent.

Ozuna with an infield hit with 1 down here in the Redbird 6th in a 3-0 Cardinal ballgame. Have to give credit where credit is due. I’ve been pretty critical of Marcell all season, but he’s been pretty darn good at the plate for us this last month or so…..now Gyorko blisters a base hit to left with Ozuna stopping at 2nd! Oh for a little Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom Insurance right here! Yadi grounds it…..fair past Turner at 3rd and into left for a hit!! Ozuna comes prancing home with Gyorko whizzing around 2nd and safely into 3rd and Yadi at 1st! That grounder appeared to have quite a bit of English in it and it absolutely ate Turner up at 3rd….looks like the Dodgers are going to change hurlers.

Turner gifts the Cards a run on what should have been an easy DP on the Yadi grounder. Now a 4-run lead for the pen to hold for 3 innings.

So Norris is now the 7th inning guy. Wonder if Carlos will get more than one inning?
