I know we just need a base hit, and that I don’t want Munoz reaching for something stupid. But, man, a homerun would be really nice right now. Some breathing room would be excellent.
Good work by Brebbia to hold the Pirates scoreless in his two innings. Now let’s get some extra base hits in amongst all the singles.
The Cards have played a great game, just completely out of order. They’re hitting the Pirates pitching really well and getting not much for it. 12 hits including a homer and three doubles, 6 walks and a reach on an error. I’m actually not sure if it’s really possible to score fewer than 5 runs with that combination of batsmen in 7 innings?
Two outs on the bases is a big blemish, obviously.
I don’t get it…the hottest hitter on the planet is on deck and Bader is swinging 3-1? Unless that ball is obviously grooved, that is a huge mistake by Harrison. Even if it is grooved I think you have to take. As is, that would have been a close call and maybe he’d get the walk. Yet another missed chance. Sheesh. 30 LOB by hitters, 15 guys on base don’t score. This is absurd.
The Cards have a 1.018 OPS in this game, or somewhere between a lineup of Matt Carpenters and Mike Trouts. 6 runs is ok but you’d have to think the expected runs would be north of that.
Hicks comes in and coughs up the lead. Are we really going to lose this after coming all the way back?? It would be a crushing, crushing loss.
Marp flies out but Yadi flips one to right to give them a glimmer of hope. Can Dejong or Ozuna do some yard work to bring home the runs?
And there’s your ballgame. That’s a demoralizing loss and one that could easily lead to a sweep. Clawing and fighting back and just couldn’t manage to get anything across when they needed it.
Cant get a hit for sh~t when we need it at times. At least not tonight. Had so many chances to put more runs on the board.
A game where we actually did not boot botch or muff one single defensive opportunity, PLUS for good measure, we amass 15 hits on offense…..and we still lose! That ladies and gentlemen is a team not well versed in the art of how to win a ballgame. I hope the team has thoroughly checked into the possibility of hiring one of George Kissell’s sons, grandsons or great grandsons, because the coaches we having training our youngsters just are not cutting the mustard. The proof is in the pudding.
Exactly, Rats and pugs. Overall this was a game that could and should have been won easily. The lack of situational awareness can be stunning at times. Ozuna getting thrown out because he missed Oquendo telling him to stop…Bader trying to play hero when the best hitter in the game was on deck…lots of issues to go around.
This was simply a frustrating game to follow and while I admire the team’s fight, there is need of a serious talent upgrade moving forward. Yadi and Dejong are good players and God bless em…but they should be hitting 5-6 or lower in next year’s lineup. If they’re still hitting 2nd and 3rd then Mo should be looking for a job after 2019.
Wow, quite an entertaining game. Frustrating to leave guys all over the bases, and lose some on the bases. But the club battled back from a 4-run deficit to put themselves in to position to take this one. Molina finally gets a hit in the ninth, and I was saying “Where was that when the bases were loaded a couple of times?” But that is the breaks of the game.
Agree on the Molina-DeJong 2 and 3 spots in the order. I do not really like them in those slots. Molina, while he is a decent hitter clogs up the bases too much to be hitting second. DeJong is not a 3 hitter yet. But then with Pham gone, we really do not have anyone that fits the 3 spot. Carpenter would be ideal, but there is that stigma that he will slump as soon as he gets moved there. I think he would be fine, and now that he is still hitting well would be a good time to put him there. You might want to put O’Neill there, but again he really should be hitting a little lower until he gets his feet wet at this level.
Once Wong is re-activated, I would like to see the club drop down to 12 pitchers and have more maneuverability on offense. You then would have times where Hudson, Poncedeleon and Hicks would need to go 2 or 3 innings, and might need to take a turn at the plate once in a while. But you could do a lot more in a game like this evening’s contest, and have some depth if a guy goes down. Had this one gone 14 innings or so, it might have been a rough go. But it’s only for a month, as in September we will have it both ways with the expanded rosters.
Tomorrow is a tough match-up. Although Nova has not pitched all that well, he can be tough and is better than he has shown this year. Like the Rockies, we are seeing the Pirates when they are hot, and at home too, so we need to get at least one of these next two.
