Unfortunately, I won’t be able to watch this one tonight thanks to the blackout. I know up here they’re calling for storms this afternoon but maybe it’ll be clear in Pgh.

The Bucs are playing better than their talent would indicate and the Archer trade is a shot in the arm for their fan base. It would be good to cool off two hot teams in a row heading into 6 on the road against two bad teams. This is a time when the team could really build momentum if they can win 6 or 7 of the next 9 on the road.

When is Wong coming off the DL? Thought it might be today. I am getting tired of Gyorko in the lineup all the time. Move Munoz to 3rd once Wong is activated.

And is Jose Martinez now relegated to a bench/pinch-hitter role?

Wong was unable to hit low A pitching in his rehab game at Peoria last night.

UConn, do you really think that is significantly relevant?

Going to make a prediction here. Not a premonition though.

The Nationals sweep the Reds this weekend and that starts them on a winning streak and back into the lead in the NL East.

Marp greets Archer in his NL debut with a leadoff dinger. 1-0 Cards. Gant goes to work.

To the extent that he needs to work on his timing, yes. Otherwise I wouldn’t have posted it.

Take your time Fowler, no hurry.

The Pirates go double-single-triple in their first three at bats to take the lead right back.

I am happy the Pirates got Archer and not us.

Munoz can handle righty sliders away, and many young batters can’t.
Even Gyorko still struggles with sliders away.

I believe John Gant just set an MLB record for most plate appearances without getting on to begin his career.

In other news the Cards have scored a run back in the 2nd and have the bases loaded. Yadi K’ed with one out so he didn’t get the tying run in. Now would be a great time for Dejong’s power to return.

Dejong strikes out on a fat middle-middle slider. Missed chance there.

It’s obvious when the slider is coming from Archer. Need to be ready for it. Gotta put those in play.

He’s pitching all the righty bats the same. Fastballs inside, sliders away. Have to be willing to use RF on those sliders.

That’s 4 strikeouts with RISP tonight. Not a very good sign.

Gant is hemorrhaging runs now. The Pirates have all but wrapped this one up early. It’s just a shame that the rotation has been crushed so badly with injuries this year. Gant is a good reliever but not great as a starter.

The Cards have had 10 base runners and scored 2 runs. The Pirates have had 9 and scored 6 of them. That’s a tale of offensive efficiency, or lack of.

6-3 now. Can Fowler come through here???

That he does! 6-4 and Archer is out. Yairo with a shot to bring the team a bit closer to the Bucs.

Jose Martinez up with the bases loaded. He takes the first two balls and now a third. The next pitch comes in down the middle for a strike. The 3-1…is fouled off. Marp sits on deck hoping to get a chance to do his work. The 3-2 is grounded to third which gets the run in to make it 6-5.

Left the bases loaded. Still a good inning. Would be good to be a little more efficient with the 14 base runners tonight, but hopefully they’ll keep getting on base and eventually pass up the Pirates.

Another opportunity with the bases juiced again. Yairo has been good tonight. Will thus time be the charm??
