stlcard25ParticipantUnfortunately, I won’t be able to watch this one tonight thanks to the blackout. I know up here they’re calling for storms this afternoon but maybe it’ll be clear in Pgh.
The Bucs are playing better than their talent would indicate and the Archer trade is a shot in the arm for their fan base. It would be good to cool off two hot teams in a row heading into 6 on the road against two bad teams. This is a time when the team could really build momentum if they can win 6 or 7 of the next 9 on the road.

stlcard25ParticipantToday's #STLCards lineup (8/3)
Carpenter 1B
Molina C
DeJong SS
Ozuna LF
O'Neill CF
Gyorko 3B
Fowler RF
Munoz 2B
Gant P— St. Louis Cardinals (@Cardinals) August 3, 2018
August 3, 2018 at 4:39 pm #63804When is Wong coming off the DL? Thought it might be today. I am getting tired of Gyorko in the lineup all the time. Move Munoz to 3rd once Wong is activated.
And is Jose Martinez now relegated to a bench/pinch-hitter role?

August 3, 2018 at 5:07 pm #63807Wong was unable to hit low A pitching in his rehab game at Peoria last night.
August 3, 2018 at 5:15 pm #63808UConn, do you really think that is significantly relevant?
August 3, 2018 at 6:02 pm #63810Going to make a prediction here. Not a premonition though.
The Nationals sweep the Reds this weekend and that starts them on a winning streak and back into the lead in the NL East.

stlcard25ParticipantMarp greets Archer in his NL debut with a leadoff dinger. 1-0 Cards. Gant goes to work.
August 3, 2018 at 6:16 pm #63814To the extent that he needs to work on his timing, yes. Otherwise I wouldn’t have posted it.
August 3, 2018 at 6:23 pm #63815
jj-cf-stlParticipantTake your time Fowler, no hurry.
August 3, 2018 at 6:23 pm #63816
stlcard25ParticipantThe Pirates go double-single-triple in their first three at bats to take the lead right back.
August 3, 2018 at 6:32 pm #63817NJ315
ParticipantI am happy the Pirates got Archer and not us.
August 3, 2018 at 6:37 pm #63818
jj-cf-stlParticipantMunoz can handle righty sliders away, and many young batters can’t.
Even Gyorko still struggles with sliders away.August 3, 2018 at 6:41 pm #63819
stlcard25ParticipantI believe John Gant just set an MLB record for most plate appearances without getting on to begin his career.
In other news the Cards have scored a run back in the 2nd and have the bases loaded. Yadi K’ed with one out so he didn’t get the tying run in. Now would be a great time for Dejong’s power to return.
August 3, 2018 at 6:43 pm #63820
stlcard25ParticipantDejong strikes out on a fat middle-middle slider. Missed chance there.
August 3, 2018 at 6:46 pm #63821It’s obvious when the slider is coming from Archer. Need to be ready for it. Gotta put those in play.
August 3, 2018 at 6:51 pm #63827
jj-cf-stlParticipantHe’s pitching all the righty bats the same. Fastballs inside, sliders away. Have to be willing to use RF on those sliders.
August 3, 2018 at 7:02 pm #63833
stlcard25ParticipantThat’s 4 strikeouts with RISP tonight. Not a very good sign.
August 3, 2018 at 7:22 pm #63836
stlcard25ParticipantGant is hemorrhaging runs now. The Pirates have all but wrapped this one up early. It’s just a shame that the rotation has been crushed so badly with injuries this year. Gant is a good reliever but not great as a starter.
August 3, 2018 at 7:51 pm #63837
stlcard25ParticipantThe Cards have had 10 base runners and scored 2 runs. The Pirates have had 9 and scored 6 of them. That’s a tale of offensive efficiency, or lack of.
August 3, 2018 at 7:52 pm #63838
stlcard25Participant6-3 now. Can Fowler come through here???
August 3, 2018 at 7:55 pm #63839
stlcard25ParticipantThat he does! 6-4 and Archer is out. Yairo with a shot to bring the team a bit closer to the Bucs.
August 3, 2018 at 8:01 pm #63840
stlcard25ParticipantJose Martinez up with the bases loaded. He takes the first two balls and now a third. The next pitch comes in down the middle for a strike. The 3-1…is fouled off. Marp sits on deck hoping to get a chance to do his work. The 3-2 is grounded to third which gets the run in to make it 6-5.
August 3, 2018 at 8:03 pm #63841
stlcard25ParticipantLeft the bases loaded. Still a good inning. Would be good to be a little more efficient with the 14 base runners tonight, but hopefully they’ll keep getting on base and eventually pass up the Pirates.
August 3, 2018 at 8:29 pm #63847
stlcard25ParticipantAnother opportunity with the bases juiced again. Yairo has been good tonight. Will thus time be the charm??
