Luke Weaver (1-1, 3.31) vs. RHP Jhoulys Chacin (11-8, 3.98) 7:15 p.m. FOX Sports MidwestAugust 23, 2017 at 3:36 pm #31391
Day off for Carpenter. Seems Grichuk is the odd man out in the outfield.

Jeez Garcia at 3B.Garcia is fine pinch-hitter…
Why not Piscotty at 1B
and Grichuk in Rf?August 23, 2017 at 4:35 pm #31396
Update: Carpenter is ill and not at the ballpark. No word if it is the dreaded “flu-like symptoms”. 😉August 23, 2017 at 7:48 pm #31418
Top of the 3rd, Cards up 2-0…August 23, 2017 at 8:30 pm #31420
Now 4-0 in T5th. Chacin’s error on a pickoff play enabled the run in the 4th.August 23, 2017 at 8:43 pm #31425

Isn’t it delightful to have an effective starter tonight?August 23, 2017 at 8:51 pm #31426
Bottom of the 5th, bases loaded with 2 outs and Cards up 4-0…August 23, 2017 at 9:00 pm #31428
Chacin has hit four Cardinal batters, and almost got Weaver up near the head. Wonder if there will be any retaliation by Weaver in the next inning or two?August 23, 2017 at 9:04 pm #31429
Top of the 6th, Cards up now 5-0…August 23, 2017 at 9:20 pm #31433

Tough game for Rich Hill tonight. No-hits the Pirates for 9 innings and gives up a walk-off home run to Harrison in the 10th. Takes the 1-0 loss.August 23, 2017 at 9:21 pm #31434
Rats, do you really think Chacin was doing it on purpose? The Weaver up and in occurred on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded.August 23, 2017 at 9:34 pm #31441
No, the up and in to Weaver was after Fowler scored on the WP so there was only two on. I doubt Chacin was doing it on purpose but jeepers, after your team gets plunked four times you need to send a message.
And I see now where Weaver hit Spangenberg…….
As Hawk Harrelson would say…..”C’MON!!!”

Do you think they’d consider DFA Oh?
He can’t close and can’t pitch the 8th and it appears can’t pitch the 7th either.August 23, 2017 at 9:57 pm #31447
Bottom of the 8th, Cards up 5-1, bases loaded…helped in large part to Wong stealing both second and third and Pham stealing second…all with now 2 outs…August 23, 2017 at 10:00 pm #31448
Gyorko hits in 2 more to make it 7-1 Cards…August 23, 2017 at 10:07 pm #31451
Top of the 9th and score is 6 to 2, guess Gyorko only pushed in 1 run…August 23, 2017 at 10:09 pm #31453
Can the bullpen hold this one???
If only we had Rosenthal to anchor the 9th.August 23, 2017 at 10:19 pm #31455
We hold on and win 6-2, back to 2 games over .500…August 23, 2017 at 10:36 pm #31456
Nice bounce back winAugust 23, 2017 at 10:39 pm #31457

Pads challenged and Pham was ruled out at the plate. It was an easy overturn.August 24, 2017 at 6:55 am #31466

Greg Garcia has been on fire in the second half. There’s little doubt he will be with the team in 2018.August 24, 2017 at 7:03 am #31469

5th infielder next year will probably be a competition between
Garcia, Diaz, Mejia, and Valera.
The other IF bench competition may be between Voit and Wisdom.August 24, 2017 at 7:11 am #31474
I don’t see separate competitions for infield reserve spots. Diaz and Garcia would be the favorites, IMO. Voit’s limitation remains the same – first base only. There could easily be 40-man shakeups affecting some of these players in the interim.August 24, 2017 at 7:13 am #31475
Factoids from this game.
From Tim Trokey @tim_trokey of FS Midwest:
Kolten Wong is the 1st #STLcards leadoff hitter with 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 steals since 1992 (Ray Lankford).
From Elias Sports:
Luke Weaver Wednesday became 1st #stlcards rookie to strike out 10 in game without yielding a run since Shelby Miller in 2013
