At first blush, this seems a bit odd, since the most consistent part of Arenado’s value is his defense. But though Woo does not mention it, there appear to be few third base jobs open on contending teams. So offering to change positions seems a move by the Arenado camp to make him more appealing in trade.
In other words, my interpretation is that he wants out if possible. Actions speak louder than words.
