bling asked:
Is it too much to expect the player development system to also contribute? Or is it 100% on ownership to just write checks to buy a team?
So my question is: What is the system’s contribution to the rebuild going to consist of when the opening day roster rolls out?
Seems like we’ve covered this a lot already, but here we go.
The player development system delivered Walker, Herrera and Winn most recently. Several drafts were not focused on pitching, and the arms they did add have not come through, so there is a gap in that pipeline. We knew that. They knew that, hence all the deadline trades. But the pitchers aren’t ready yet. No new news here.
So, no, there probably aren’t going to be any major new contributors from the farm this spring. Some want to see Scott make the team, but I don’t think he is ready.
But if there isn’t any pitching help ready by spring of 2025, then we will get year two of Lynn and Gibson.
