I’ve been preaching for Matt Boyd for at least a month or so now. He had a great 1st half and a not so great 2nd half. In my opinion, being on a losing team in a situation where winning doesn’t matter as much you can’t be as focused as if you were in a race on a winning team. That last part is open to criticism, but I will never believe it.
A package along the lines of O’neill, Woodford and Adolis Garcia, which I would do in a heart beat, should get it done. They need any and all of the decent bats they can get, I would even throw in JMart(they have Cabrera at DH but could very easily find a spot at 1B or COF for JMart). A silver lining for the Cards would be to free up a 40 man spot or two as well and get it done sooner rather than later and not worry about having to play the traded guys very often.
A rotation starting with Flaherty and Boyd looks a lot better than they have right now, and they wouldn’t be giving up pieces that would play a major role anyway, especially after Carlson is up in late April. I just wish the deal would have been made on or around 7/31/19!
